The position

Job description

The international news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) is seeking for a photo editor to join its New Delhi Bureau which handles South Asia photo production.

The editor will select, edit, write captions and validate the diverse production to AFP clients worldwide. They will monitor the news, features and sport events that could be of interest to AFP and follow up with the photographers to guarantee the quality production that is AFP’s trademark. Close collaboration with the video, text, graphics and digital verification departments is essential.

The editor will have to ensure the reliability of events covered and respect for the agency’s editorial policy. Candidates should expect to contribute to AFP’s social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, and its various multimedia products.

The editor will strive to ensure multimedia coordination for simultaneous delivery of video, text, photo, factcheck to clients and generally operate under AFP’s high standards of accuracy and fair reporting.

They will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the AFP’s ethics charter, editorial guidelines, social media guidelines, and style guide.

The successful candidate will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping factcheckers in the network and ensure they are trained in the various methods of online verification. Online training is available here.

The job requires flexibility in terms of hours.  Shared late shifts and weekends are part of the desk routine as it is with other editorial services.


Preferred experience

  • Experience in news photo editing and proficient with Adobe Photoshop software

  • Excellent English language skills is required, Hindi would be a plus

  • Strong proven interest in global affairs

  • Interest in social media and participate in social networking sites (Facebook, X, etc).

  • Strong writing and editing skills, ability to produce rapid, well-edited photos in real-time deadlines

  • Excellent news judgment and be equally able to edit general news, economic, thematic and sports images

  • Experience in editing sports will be a serious advantage

  • Good team player, capable of working well within a team

  • Candidates need to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure

This is a full-time job open to candidates eligible to work in India.
