The Allegro DVT team is primarily composed of R&D engineers in both software and hardware, including several experts in digital video compression and decompression. The technical teams, with support from a range of departments, including communication marketing, sales (internationally), IT support, administrative and HR functions, and management, effectively leverage synergies to address any human and technological challenges that may arise in the years ahead. The company's inclusive and supportive environment is enriched by the diverse cultures and generations of its teams in France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and China.
IP Software
The Allegro DVT IP Software team specializes in developing intellectual property blocks for the encoding and decoding of video formats, including H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, and VVC standards. Our team ensures the delivery of versatile solutions across a range of video codecs. These solutions offer scalability through an adaptive architecture that is optimized for minimal energy consumption and silicon footprint.
“The main technical challenge is the complexity of the code.”
Julien, Software Developer Engineer
IP Hardware Team
The Allegro DVT Hardware team operates through a collaboration of two main activities, both of which are crucial in providing leading-edge video compression and decompression solutions. Each team plays a unique role in this process, and their collective efforts are instrumental in our accomplishments. The design hardware team specializes in ASIC and designs the RTL blocks for our video compression and decompression IP blocks. They work on the latest compression standards, such as HEVC, AV1, and VVC, and contribute to researching the best compression algorithms, followed by their RTL language implementations. With a constant focus on optimizing these complex computational blocks, they aim to achieve the best compromise in surface area, power consumption, and performance.
The other hardware team is comprised of research and development experts in microelectronics. They ensure the quality of Allegro DVT's high-performance video encoding and decoding solutions for our clients. The team develops a series of tests to validate customer requirements and utilizes internally deployed microelectronic tools for their specific needs. Customer support is also provided for these deliverables.
“We design the hardware for video encoders and decoders.”
Nathan, R&D Engineer
Video Quality IA Team
The Video Algorithm team, with its expertise, studies and develops video encoding algorithms for Hardware implementation. It examines the feasibility of algorithm implementation, striving to meet the constraints and limitations imposed by the Hardware Design team. Once established, these algorithms will enable the Hardware team to initiate the digital design desired by the client. The team's main goal is to continually improve the visual quality of videos. To achieve this, the team uses both standard solutions and AI-based tools including:
- Development of video compression tools
- Research of solutions to improve video encoders
- Feasibility studies in controlled environments
- Technology monitoring by participating in academic and standardization conferences
“An open mind is essential in research and innovation.”
Loïc, Video Algorithms Team Manager
Compliance Streams Team
The CS (Compliance Streams) team's role at Allegro DVT is to create test suites that allow customers to test their video decoder designs. The goal is to enable them to ensure the reliability of future semiconductor chips manufactured from these designs.
Each compliance stream allows testing of a limited and specific set of functionalities to facilitate identifying anomalies. Allegro DVT offers compliance streams for all video formats, including VVC/H.266, AV1, VP9, HEVC/H.265, AVC/H.264, AVS3, and AVS2. There are several types of compliance streams, each used for specific objectives:
- streams for testing syntax (coverage of each syntactic element),
- others for testing decoder performance limits (memory bandwidth, for example),
- and another type for testing error resilience
In addition to this product line, Allegro DVT has a testing laboratory (Labwise) for TV certification. Leaders in this market can rely on our team of experts to verify their TVs' compliance.
“A cutting-edge expertise recognized worldwide.”
Jérôme, Engineering Director
