Job description

In the Global Bank Team at SumUp we are building the infrastructure and core services needed to provide our merchants with a digital bank account that allows them to be successful at doing what they love. Our goal is to become the most popular banking partner for small merchants globally by offering a high-quality banking experience tailored to small business needs - effortless, simple and affordable.

As our global banking platform continues to grow, so does the feature-set we support and the technology estate upon which it’s built.

Therefore we are seeking Software Development Engineers in Test (SDET) to join our team. You'll collaborate across the Global Bank team to improve software quality through automated testing practices. Shape our test strategy, build test packs, identify quality gaps, and integrate automated tests from mobile UI to data tier. Help us to accelerate delivery while maintaining a high quality bar.

What You'll Do

  • Define and implement robust testing strategies for stream-aligned squads, ensuring software reliability.
  • Periodically audit squads’ testing strategies and implementation - from the quality of the scenarios to the reliability of the test reports.
  • Support engineers in designing, testing, and iteratively improving software products for high availability.
  • Integrate testing methodologies and practices within teams, fostering a culture of quality assurance.
  • Write unit, automated component, contract, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Provide end-to-end support for performance and load testing, including workload modeling, test execution and results analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with software and DevOps engineers for seamless deployment and continuous integration.
  • Utilize metrics to identify areas for improvement and guide engineers with actionable steps.
  • Assist in maintaining test suites, build pipelines, and test data.

You'll Be Great for This Role If:

  • You have solid programming experience in any language (e.g., Kotlin, Python, JavaScript, Go, Elixir, Java), and are experienced in writing and maintaining unit, component, contract, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • You have mobile automation experience with any tool that requires coding and can create robust automated testing frameworks.
  • You are experienced with performance and load testing, including workload modeling, test execution, and results analysis
  • You have experience managing build pipelines, integrating tests, and working with Continuous Deployment.
  • You have experience developing on a microservice architecture with good test architecture design skills.
  • You are proficient with Git, design patterns, Docker containers, Kubernetes, and the AWS ecosystem. Familiarity with Grafana and Honeycomb is a plus.
  • You have solid knowledge of relational databases.
  • You take ownership of everything you ship and believe in the power of teamwork and collaboration.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in the fintech industry.
  • Knowledge of Kafka.
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL.
  • GitHub Actions experience.
  • Experience with mobile test automation.

Why you should join SumUp

  • The opportunity to work on large scale fintech products used by millions of small businesses around the world
  • Work on a high impact squad that is at the core of the Bank Tribe
  • A dedicated annual Learning & Development budget for attending conferences and/or advancing your career through further education
  • Enrollment onto our virtual stock ownership program - you will own a stake in SumUp’s future success
  • A corporate pension scheme
  • You'd enjoy other great benefits such as Urban Sports Club subsidy, Kita placement assistance, subsidized office lunches and other location-tailored benefits, Babbel language platform subscription and more
  • You’ll attend global offsites and/or hackathons.
  • Join a truly global SumUp team of 3200+ people from 80+ countries, spread across 4 continents
