Tech teams
The Tech teams are split into IT, Data and Pricing.
IT : they develop digital assets to support the growth strategy and digitalize insurance products. They build solutions that stand out from usual insurance practices relying on technology (SPAs, blockchain...), patterns (CQRS...) and practices (DDD, TDD, DevOps...).
Data : they integrate and transform data to meet the automation and management needs of the business. They work on industrializing the integration of our partners' data, automating data quality, data visualization and valorisation through data science.
Pricing : they set up and ensure partnerships profitability. To achieve this, they operate before the deployment - to create the product's pricing structure - and throughout the partnership to adjust the pricing in real-time. They work with various internal and external stakeholders.

Domain-Driven Design ⚙️
Is used to have a better understanding of our issues and increase the alignment between the business and techs. It enables us to see the full scope of a problem, share the same vocabulary, break down the functional domains and finally get down to the code.
Data
Is essential at Wakam to measure the profitability of our products and to show indicators to our partners.
Data Ingestion : every month, the teams gather and sort out the data from hundreds of partnerships and from different sources of truth.
Data Science : to drive and forecast on the short or long term the evolution and profitability of the business.
Blockchain ⚙️
Is used to automate the policy management of our usage-based and parametric insurance products.
Organization and methodologies
We use the Agile methodology with deliverables along the way. Out Tech teams are divided into multidisciplinary Squads working on several projects.
A few team rituals set the pace of our schedules:
- stand-up meetings: a quick update to see the User Stories progression and to spot blocking points.
- backlog groomings: during which we assess the priority, dependencies and complexity of our different Stories to set them better within the sprints and deliver quality as efficiently as possible.
- sprint review meetings: we take a step back to look at what went well and what could be improved in the next sprints to ensure continuous improvement. We encourage transparency and responsibility. There's no room for ego or emotion, we basically aim to be more and more efficient all together!
- postmortems: if something didn't go as planned, we always analyse why then define and approve an action plan so that it goes better next time.
Products and platforms
Play & Plug : The only entry point to all of our services enabling our partners to create and control their insurance products.
** Pricing** : Our pricing API receives more than 10 million calls per month to evaluate the cost of an insurance.
Policy Admin System : A platform to manage insurance policies on public blockchain. It deals with various operations such as policy subscription, mid-term adjustments, renewals, etc.
Data Platform : Our data platform handles our partners' insurance data (more than 1000 data streams) to support all business uses through Business Intelligence, DataViz, Data Exposure and Data Science.
Continuous learning
To keep on learning, training and to stay aware of the latest tech trends are very important to us. This is why we have set up:
- peer programming sessions
- lightning talks: 3 minutes to pitch a project to your peers
- join meetups and tech conferences, and host our own
- new Wakamees mentored by more senior profiles to train them on our development best practices
Hiring requirements
Yes, hard skills are important, but we are also looking for people who will truly fit into our teams. Team spirit, proactivity, kindness and cooperation first!
Presentation
Wakam is a European B2B2C insurer that designs white-label insurance products for its partners (e-retailers, brokers and fintech/insurtech, etc.). Our insurance products have the particularity of being embedded in the products or services offered to the end customer (for example, if you take a self-service e-scooter, you are automatically insured).
Wakam operates in 32 European countries with the majority of its turnover generated outside France. The company provides most of its products through API, and hosts white-label insurance solutions via its Play&Plug technology platform.
At Wakam we believe in the formula “for-profit & for good”. Since March 2021, we are a Mission-driven company, which means that our mission statement ‘Enabling transparent and impactful insurance’ is written in our bylaws. And we go further: by defining concrete commitments to illustrate this mission, such as writing our insurance contracts in plain language (no more confusing terms and conditions). We also create insurance products at cost for associations.
Our culture? Free to impact. A culture where everything is possible, where all ideas are taken into consideration, where everyone has an impact on the transformation of insurance! Hungry for freedom? Thirsty for autonomy? If you are adventurous and like challenges, then the Wakam adventure might be made for you!
What they are looking for
Mindset compatibility with our ‘Free to Impact’ culture:
- Think big
- Biased for action
- Curious and eager to learn
- Can say no and find solutions
- Aims for the moon (but please don’t stick on the moon)
- And above all: have fun working together 🤜🤛 !
Good to know
Wakam is not based on a hierarchy but on a methodology where everyone finds his role and knows his objectives.
With a flat hierarchical system and a highly collaborative operating model, Wakam is an extremely agile and transparent company.
Every last Friday of the month, it's Free.day at Wakam, a day without meetings to take a step aside and dedicate ourselves to skills sponsorship or other activities (because we are curious, I remind you).
Full-remote is a reality at Wakam (there is even one Wakamee who works from his sailing boat ⛵)
We are nice (you'll find out by yourself 😉)
