Technip Energies is a leading engineering and technology company serving the energy transition.

Context of the internship

Technip Energies is a leader in France in the field of pharmaceutical engineering, with more than 25 years of experience and more than 300 projects in the life sciences.

From its design to its production and use, each drug has environmental impacts: on the climate and air quality, biodiversity, water and soil quality. The pharmaceutical sector is collectively mobilizing around solutions to reduce these impacts [1]. In this context of strong evolution, Technip Energies is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of new production units.

Integrated into a study project for a new biopharmaceutical production unit, the mission of the internship is to make proposals to reduce the carbon footprint and energy consumption of the unit during this design phase.

More specifically, the internship, which lasts about 6 months, will take place according to the following stages:

  •  Integration, understanding the context and preparing the roadmap
    • Discovery of Technip Energies' life sciences activities.
    • Bibliographic Review: Understanding the main challenges of energy optimization of pharmaceutical production units and the global context of GHG and carbon footprint.
    • Familiarize yourself with the studies previously carried out and the project in which the internship will be part.
  • Heart of the course
    • Study the optimization of a cleaning-in-place and sterilization cycle for one of the project equipment. The before/after optimization comparison will focus on energy consumption, carbon footprint, water consumption, operating and investment costs. This study will be extended to the washing machine cleaning of the small equipment of the production unit.
    • Calculate the carbon footprint of a project chromatography skid (footprint of the equipment itself and in operation)
  • Synthesis of the results and recommendations, then writing of the report and presentation of the internship

The internship will take place within the life sciences team of the Industrial Processes department of Technip Energie's Paris center.
