Life is short… And as much as we think you’re great, we don’t want you to spend all of it at Back Market. So make the most of it. Get excited, get mad, get weird, and get 100% committed. Because numb is dumb.

There’s no room here for corporate zombies or cynics. No time for apathy or indifference. If you feel that way about your colleagues, your projects, or your mission, you’re in the wrong place.

The bonfire in which we plan to roast New Tech can only burn if every Back Maker brings their own authentic, contagious, white-hot flame. So get fired up!

Back Market was founded with strong convictions and a risk-taking spirit.

We have no interest in “playing it safe.” As underdogs, it’s our obligation to make bold moves. That’s the only way we have a fighting chance in the battle against New.

Question yourself every time you think, “I’m afraid…”. Trust your gut. Push to make things happen. Take a giant leap if you believe you can stick the landing.

And if you’re leading a team, lead by example. Sometimes that can mean painful conversations or decisions, but everyone will be the better for it

Politics and gossip make for a great episode of Game of Thrones, but they’re no fun in the workplace. We want Back Market to be a safe space where people can show up as their authentic selves, and where we can trust each other without having to decipher hidden meanings or motives. Put yourself out there and say what you really think, but say it kindly and constructively.

Of course, honest truths can sometimes be hard on the ego. So it’s just as important to practice listening to feedback without taking it personally.

We could’ve called this mantra the “No Assholes Policy” – but that wouldn’t sound very professional.

You’re part of the team, not in competition with it. Cultivate a deep compassion and respect for your teammates. We’re better as a whole when we learn from each other.

That also means everyone’s doing the work together. No one is too senior to just talk and not do. No one is too big for a small task. Everyone should be willing to get their hands dirty as we keep our eyes on the prize.

Time is by far our most precious resource – not just as Back Makers juggling multiple projects, but as humans living on an imperiled planet.

We must work together to maximize this resource and constantly ask ourselves if our time is properly allocated or if it can be more impactful elsewhere.

Sharing time as a team is also about spending powerful, meaningful moments together in and out of the office, making memories to strengthen our relationships and culture.

We won’t let ourselves be abused by Apple’s sweet videos. Mother earth is not satisfied. Tech industry is still way too linear. Here is our raging fire, here is our battle.

To stay consistent and true to ourselves, we won’t stop there. We choose to lead that revolution by showing the world that it’s possible to build an extremely successful business while being sustainable in every way.

From how we choose our partners, how we treat our stakeholders, to how we actually build our business practices, we consistently seek to improve our social and environmental footprint, and pave the way for the whole industry to follow.
