The position

Job description

We are seeking experienced Operational Specialists to join our Database team in Prague/Ostrava/Brno, working alongside global colleagues from Denmark and the Philippines, as well as vendors and partners. You will play a key role in advising, building, operating, and supporting our customers’ databases worldwide. 

Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the MS SQL database, providing 2nd/3rd level support, managing patching, participating in service windows, and following ITIL Change Management processes. You will also be an essential part of the Operations Centre, participating on daily and weekend on-call duty. 

About the team 

The Database Operations department comprises 41 skilled professionals specializing in Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, and other databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB. The team provides both operational and consultancy support to our customers. While most work occurs during standard business hours, occasional scheduled tasks outside normal hours, as well as weekend on-site duties (daytime), may be required in the future on-call duty. 

As a Database Administrator (MS SQL Server) at Aeven, you will be part of our MS SQL Operations/Project team, which is responsible for managing the operation, project work, and strategic planning for over 1,500 mainly on-premises MS SQL instances. The MS SQL Service Operations team ensures the reliable performance of MS SQL databases for SAP, MS Dynamics, SharePoint, web applications and many other critical business applications. 

Your responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high-availability MS SQL solutions, including SQL Server clustering, replication, mirroring, and AlwaysOn Availability Groups 

  • Design, implement, and manage Microsoft SQL Server systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability 

  • Lead migration projects from older infrastructure to newer versions (SQL Server 202x/201x) 

  • Perform regular database backup and restore procedures to ensure data integrity and availability 

  • Manage database user access and enforce security policies 

  • Apply service pack updates, patches, and security updates to maintain system security and performance 

  • Participate in consolidation, automation, and performance optimization initiatives to improve database operations 

  • Document operational procedures, services, and changes in detail to ensure consistency and transparency 

  • Provide expert guidance and support to application services teams on MS SQL best practices and problem resolution

Preferred experience

  • Deep knowledge of MS SQL high-availability solutions (clustering, replication, mirroring, AlwaysOn Availability Groups) 

  • Experience in designing and managing large-scale MS SQL environments 

  • Strong experience in database migration, backup/restore operations, and user security management 

  • Familiarity with SQL Server upgrades, service packs, and security updates 

  • Understanding of underlying Windows Server administration and familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware), storage, and networking 

  • Proven experience in performance tuning, automation, and database consolidation 

  • Excellent documentation skills and a focus on maintaining detailed records of operations 

  • Ability to provide support and advice to application teams, ensuring smooth integration with database systems 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to database management  

You also have a business-oriented approach to communication, strong analytical skills, and a structured, positive mindset. Fluency in both spoken and written English is required. 

With the rapid changes in the IT services industry, we are seeking a DBA who is eager to learn and support additional database technologies, such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB. The ideal candidate should be open to operating databases not only on premises but also in public cloud environments in the future.
