AFP, one of the world’s leading news agencies, is looking for a self-driven and dynamic English-language text reporter to lead the agency’s multimedia coverage of technology business that transforms economies, and connecting the world in new and unprecedented ways.
The role is multifaceted and challenging as it requires sharp writing skills, a multimedia vision and an in-depth knowledge of the sector, as well as deft communication and organisational skills to work effectively across AFP’s regional and global network.
You must be capable of producing fact, accurate and original stories ranging from breaking news, exclusives, to in-depth analysis and features — on all topics related to the digital world and technology.
As the technology specialist, you will be the point of contact to advise all APAC bureaus and help steer daily coverage on these topics. You will be required to assist with reporting breaking news events related to the sector across the region, either by writing stories or supporting reporters and editors in other bureaus with your knowledge and contacts.
You will liaise frequently, and take guidance from the Editor-In-chief to co-ordinate coverage. You will also work in close contact with the Digital hub at AFP’s headquarter to coordinate and organise daily news, global packages and transversal stories.
The role can involve travel to build contacts, cover major events and produce significant enterprise content.
As part of the region’s editorial team, you may also be called upon to support production not directly related to the technology beat, such as editing features or reporting on major breaking news events.
You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency’s guidelines on social media activity. As a general rule, you commit to respecting AFP’s ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and in the Agency’s style guide.
You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping factcheckers in the network and ensure you are trained in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.
In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.
