The position

Job description

AFP, one of the world’s leading news agencies, is seeking a digital investigation journalist with strong fact-checking and precise writing skills to join its Jerusalem bureau.

You will be responsible for reporting on misinformation and disinformation in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of AFP’s rapidly growing digital investigation network, playing a leading role in combating misinformation globally.

Expertise in digital verification techniques (OSINT) and tools is a must, as is a keen interest in technology trends, including AI.

You will pitch and write about misinformation circulating in the region and assist the Jerusalem bureau in authenticating, geolocating, and analyzing photos and videos circulating online.

You will also verify the integrity of content on social media and spot the main trends and narratives, particularly on TikTok. You will be the point of reference in the region for his/her colleagues from AFP’s digital investigation global network, which has 150 journalists and publishes in 26 languages.

Misleading claims are often complex; verification work must be as clear, nuanced, and balanced as possible, according to the Agency’s editorial rules and the AFP fact-checking stylebook.

In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.

While the journalist will specialize in fact-checking/verification, duties will also extend to other reporting roles in the bureau depending on the demands of the daily news coverage.

Post to filled as soon as possible

Preferred experience

Excellent writing and editing skills are a must, as are solid communication skills and an ability to multitask.

Candidates must have excellent English and be fluent in both spoken and written Hebrew & Arabic. Knowledge of French will be an advantage.

You will need to be able to work in a fast-paced multimedia newsroom and meet tight deadlines.
