You would work out of the Washington DC or the Los Angeles bureau. As a video producer on the desk, you would handle a wide variety of news and features from across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Working under the supervision of the North America Video Editor-in-Chief, her deputy, the head of output and under the overall authority of regional Editor-in-Chief, you may also be asked to create ready-to-publish videos, mainly for digital clients. Should you be based in Los Angeles, you would work in the Los Angeles bureau and consult the Los Angeles Bureau Chief on logistical and operational matters.

You will contribute to the speed of delivery of the breaking news story and to the quality our video service.

There may also be some limited opportunities for shooting.

You must ensure the reliability of the news that is covered. You should be familiar with the issues involved in handling user-generated content and AFP’s guidelines concerning the use of UGC.

You should bring a flexible, multi-media approach to the job and expect to coordinate closely with text reporters and photographers in the region.

You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency’s guidelines on social media activity.

You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by offering any assistance needed to the digital investigation teams in the network and you will ensure that you are trained in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.
