Job description

For the department “High Temperature Materials & Technologies” in Taufkirchen (Munich) we are looking for a student (d/f/m) who would like to support us in the scope of an internship and final year thesis (internship + bachelor or master thesis) starting as soon as possible.

Your employer:

ArianeGroup is an industrial group that carries out sovereignty missions in the fields of space and defence. With more than 8,300 highly qualified employees in France and Germany, ArianeGroup has unique expertise in access to space. The company’s expertise covers the entire spectrum of civil and military launch vehicle systems, from design to development, manufacturing, integration, flight preparation, maintenance and dismantling.

The ArianeGroup Technical Center Ceramic Composites specializes in the development of fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). The laboratory features state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, such as textile manufacturing machines and high-temperature furnaces. The equipment is used in advanced manufacturing processes to develop high quality, customized CMCs for propulsion applications. A vital step in the manufacturing of CMC materials is protecting the fibers from degradation. One approach to achieving this is by applying a protective coating to the fiber. The scope of this thesis is putting an existing chemical vapor deposition reactor designed for coating carbon fibers in pyrolytic carbon into service.

Your location:

In Bavaria, near Munich, the Ottobrunn site is ArianeGroup’s European centre of excellence for the development and production of space engine combustion chambers for launchers or satellites. The combustion chambers for Ariane 6’s liquid propulsion engines - Vulcain 2.1 and Vinci - are built here, along with that of the Prometheus® reusable engine. The site is also a centre of excellence for 3D printing and the production of cryogenic valves.

Your benefits:

  • A varied and challenging job in an internationally operating aerospace company
  • Exciting projects and a lot of personal responsibility from day one
  • A cooperative, modern working atmosphere in a dynamic team
  • Flexible working hours
  • Personal contact persons and individual support

Main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Putting an existing chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor designed for coating carbon fibers in pyrolytic carbon into service
  • Analysis of the pyrolytic carbon coating regarding thickness and homogeneity
  • Optimization of coating parameters
  • Writing of a scientific report

You have the following skills and qualifications:
  • You are a registered student in aerospace engineering, material science or related field with solid credentials. Please provide a proof of your student status
  • You take initiative, can work independently and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • You have a hands-on attitude shown in extracurricular activities and have an inquisitive mindset
  • Preexisting knowledge in chemical vapor deposition is advantageous
  • Fluent in German and English

Interested?

Then we look forward receiving your application, including CV, cover letter, proof of student status, school transcripts, and references via the application button at www.ariane.group. Please limit your cover letter to 400 words and clearly describe the following:

  • How did you learn about this opportunity?
  • Your availability, including the exact desired start and end dates, as well as any flexibility
  • The expected end date of your student status
