Within the
Group, you will join the Group Ceded Re department which oversees AXA Group Reinsurance.
Within this Department, you will be part of the Reinsurance Reserving team that is responsible of technical reserve calculation for a portfolio of major life and non-life risks from AXA Group entities. Reserving enables to anticipate and cover future claims arising from reinsurance treaties underwritten by AXA SA. Technical reserves must be estimated as accurately as possible based on information on claims, and in particular their development between various phases: occurrence, declaration, payments, and closure.
About Reserving Team: the team is composed of 5 actuaries of Institut des Actuaires with 2 to 10 years of experience and of different cultures.
Your job and daily missions:
This internship is an opportunity to apply and improve your knowledge of statistics, modeling, data analysis, reinsurance and reserving.
With the help of the internship tutor, the intern will implement new models and tools to enable the AXA Group's reinsurance to be properly modeled and monitored.
Context:
In reinsurance context, actuarial approaches like internal modelling or burning cost are aimed to estimate the expected incurred claims that would be recovered from reinsurance treaties. Internal modelling aims at assessing the claims probability distribution through frequency x severity. On the other hand, burning cost approach uses the historical claims to calculate the reinsurance treaty result averaged over years.
Challenges:
The aim is to generalize the applications of these methodologies and to improve their understandings, namely through the systematization of calculations and analysis, such as variation analysis, as-if adjustments, back-testing and to bring some level of confidence on the profitability indicators.

Let’s talk about you:
You have some experience in programming (e.g. R, R shiny or VBA) and in Excel. You have in-depth knowledge of applied mathematics (actuarial science, statistics, …). You are currently in your last year of engineering or actuarial school (e.g. ISUP, ENSAE, ISFA, Dauphine, DUAS, EURIA, …), or performing a master degree in applied mathematics at the university and interested in actuarial sciences.
You enjoy teamwork, sharing knowledge and information. You are keen to innovate and bring initiatives to new subjects.
The working language is French within the Team but proficiency in English is required (technical documentation, communication with other teams in the Group, …)
