At AXA, the Group Risk Management Property & Casualty (GRM P&C) team tackles the most technical and actuarial challenges of a leading international insurance company. Our team is comprised of a high-level, multidisciplinary staff, including engineers, actuaries, data scientists, PhDs, and financial experts, based in Paris, Hong Kong, Zürich, and Madrid.

 

We focus on key missions in the following areas:

  • Analyzing, modeling, and aggregating the Group's risks, notably through economic capital
  • Defining and implementing processes to secure undertaken risks, such as risk appetite, assets accumulation, longevity, and natural catastrophes
  • Developing and maintaining models and tools in a robust IT ecosystem to industrialize the production chain
  • Optimizing the Group's protections through reinsurance, securitization, and hedging to align with our desired strategy

Your Role:

Within the Group P&C Risk Management Natural Catastrophe and Reinsurance team, you will play a crucial role as a Senior Earthquake Modeler, primarily focusing on the development and maintenance of advanced earthquake risk models in various geographies, with a keen focus on Europe.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and evolution of earthquake models, including hazard modeling and vulnerability modules
  • Analyzing earthquake post-event claims to evaluate model performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Conducting various risk analysis for management regarding earthquake risks
  • Contributing to the live CAT event response for earthquake risks and automating related reporting
  • Participating in research and innovation around earthquake modeling activities
  • Providing regular training and presentations on earthquake risk and models to AXA's entities and various stakeholders at the Group level
  • Understanding critical issues regarding earthquake modeling
  • Improving current earthquake modeling solutions to ensure quality and sustainability
  • Introducing new ideas to enhance the earthquake modeling framework
  • Raising awareness among stakeholders about earthquake risk and modeling

Preferred experience

Engineering or master’s degree in mathematics, physics, or data science

A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (geophysics, geology, or geosciences) would be considered a plus

  •  Strong programming and data analysis skills (Python, C, and R) - Ability to write clean and robust code
  • Proficient in writing technical documentation - 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with OpenQuake is highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of risk management and/or natural catastrophe modeling topics is a plus
  • You are autonomous, proactive, and with a strong sense of team spirit
  • Ability to communicate complex modeling topics to various stakeholders with a research-oriented mindset
  • Fluent in French and Business English (spoken and written)
