Job description

We’re here to help make tech reliable, affordable, and better than new. Back Market is the leading  global marketplace for refurbished devices, which help the planet by lowering  our collective environmental impact — to the tune of up to 92% less carbon emissions and 89% less water than brand new. Our mission is simple: to do more with what we already have.

From our Customer Care representatives to our software engineers, every individual at Back Market cuts the planet — and consumers — a break.

Are you ready to join us?

About the role:

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Staff Product Manager to join Payin Squad.

From supporting Back Market’s shift into its new recurring revenue business model through Subscriptions to leading upcoming iterations of 20 payment methods among 18 markets, we are seeking a Staff Product Manager to develop the Back Market payment and fraud experiences: ideal candidate is hands-on, data-obsessed and has acute attention to detail. This is a role with high visibility and full autonomy, requiring a mix of technical and functional expertise, data proficiency, user insight, and business savvy.

YOUR MISSION (IF YOU ACCEPT IT): 🥇

  • Actively contributing to shaping Back Market's Payment & Fraud Vision by influencing customer and seller habits towards a circular economy - this involves collaborating with product, design, engineering and business partners at Back Market, and contributing to regular follow-ups with external providers like Adyen, PayPal, Checkout, ProcessOut, Ravelin, Signifyd and others
  • Working closely with cross-functional partners to define ambitious roadmaps, assess technical capabilities, prioritize projects for release, and identify new opportunities
  • Developing features and capabilities to streamline payments and reduce Back Market's vulnerability to fraud and abuse, ensuring maximum impact through data analysis and market research
  • Monitoring key performance indicators related to payment and fraud, setting targeted improvements and communicating their impacts in executive reviews and company-wide updates
  • Leading and facilitating brainstorming sessions, then refining, experimenting, and building on these initial ideas to ensure well-defined product scopes that anticipate the company's growth and needs
  • Engaging in the Product Department's activities, helping to establish best practices and workflows while mentoring team members across different functions
  • YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE IF: ⭐

  • Over 6 years of experience in product management, focusing on payment and fraud-related challenges, with extra credit for experience in the marketplace sector
  • Data-driven approach: skilled in identifying, defining, and tracking metrics, familiar with A/B testing methods, and working with the Analytics team to monitor and evaluate key metrics
  • Technical approach: expertise in all payment and fraud mechanisms, from a broad understanding of the payment and fraud provider ecosystem (identifying industry leaders and challengers, alternative payment methods and the behaviors of both customers and fraudsters) to more detailed aspects like cash reconciliation and the payment lifecycle for both one-time and recurring payments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: capable of articulating strategies and priorities to senior teams (Head Of, General Manager, C-Level) with tactical insights, and providing engineering teams (Engineering Manager, Backend, Frontend, Staff) with clear and detailed product and technical specifications
  • High-reaching drive: operate in a dynamic environment with ambitious priorities, managing the product life cycle from planning and development to launch - get strongly opinionated and able to make decisions with limited information
  • WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN US ? ✌🏼

At Back Market, we’re committed to hiring and supporting diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives — it’s one of the reasons we’re such a high-scoring certified B Corp company (93.2).

No matter your role and seniority level, you’ll enjoy impact-driven work with hands-on career development in an innovative, driven, and fast-paced environment — with benefits to match, like:

    - A mission driven work environment where your day to day makes an impact on the planet. Seriously.

    - Hybrid work environment, with 2 remote days a week and 1 remote work week per quarter, plus 3 flex days.

    - Employee Resource Groups, including mentorship programs, comprehensive accessibility policies, and cultural competency training.

At Back Market, we strive to create a workplace that embodies the world we’re trying to change. We’ve embedded our diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into our DNA — from dedicated staff to employee resource groups to our company values.

We know that the perfect background for a role doesn’t mean the perfect fit — we encourage you to apply for a role even if you think you may not have all the qualifications.

If reasonable accommodations are needed for the interview process, please do not hesitate to discuss this with the Talent Acquisition Team.
