Where nature nurtures hope
Casa Sonja provides a sanctuary for children and women who have experienced domestic violence and abuse in Costa Rica.
Nestled within a healing natural environment, Casa Sonja offers psychological support and educational assistance to help children overcome past trauma and build a brighter future.
Our shelter model is not a traditional one. We choose to build a comprehensive model, an ecovillage, that includes providing safety, nutrition, health and psychological care, academic support, access to school, extra curriculum activities.
Founded by Sonja Bautista, who transitioned from a successful hospitality career to serving vulnerable children, the shelter is located on five acres of protected land with an edible forest, dormitory, and mother's houses.
