1. The first wave of foundational models was mainly bimodal (language/speech and vision) and tapping a centralized dataset (internet) with free, easy to access and easy to understand datasets. It led to a massive race for productivity and trivialization of GEN AI.

2. The second wave should support thousands of modalities relying of millions of datasets. Datasets which are fragmented, expensive and hard to access but also difficult to understand but hopefully will lead to breakthrough innovation in scientific fields.
