The position

Job description

Cartoonbase is an agency that helps clients meet complex challenges using videos, tailor-made illustrations and creative thinking.

Our ambition is to leverage the power of visual thinking with well-crafted communication strategies. We are based in Brussels, Lausanne and Paris and work with multinational companies, NGOs, state organizations and SMEs.

To keep meeting our deadlines and remain as creative as we love to be, we are looking for an animator.


Preferred experience

Role

As an intern animator (and/or) video editor at Cartoonbase, you will be expected to:

  • help of the project manager and the creative team, being able to come up with a concept for a video and animate it

  • Create, read, analyse and give feedback on storyboards

  • Work with existing assets (illustrations, graphic design, real footage, typography etc.) or create your own if needed

  • Export videos in multiple formats

  • Create projects within our guidelines (file name, structure, plugins…) so they can be archived or transferred to other animators if needed

  • Occasionally, a hand in all the other things there is to do in a fast-growing company

Also, you may help us with mix-media projects with real footage which would imply :

  • Footage Selection and Organization: review and select the best video clips while organizing raw footage for the editing process.

  • Editing: Assemble and arrange video clips to create a coherent sequence and ensure a smooth flow between scenes.

  • Visual Enhancements: enhance video quality by applying color correction and grading, adding graphics and text, and integrating special effects

Place within the organisation

Reports to the Creative Director, works very closely with the project managers and the creative team.

Required qualities

  • Careful attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills, good team member, good listener, working well with peers, good sense of integration and adaptation

  • Ability to come up with ideas quickly

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Knowledge of After Effects is a must. Animate, Premiere Pro, ToonBoom… are assets

  • Speaking French or English fluently. Dutch is an asset

  • Illustration skills are an asset


Recruitment process

    • Send us your portfolio or links to projects you’ve worked on. You can also specify in your cover letter the projects you would like to work on and the skills you would like to acquire during your future experience at Cartoonbase.

    • You can apply in French, but a basic knowledge of English is required

The recruitment process is structured in three successive rounds:

  • Round 1 : first step, the hiring team will review the candidates’ portfolios to assess their skills and experience

  • Round 2 : a 30 minutes conversation with the Producer or Creative Director to review your resume and motivations. The meeting will also give the candidate an opportunity to ask questions about Cartoonbase and to learn more about the role and the team.
