The position

Job description

Part of the Music Rights team, the Indies team focuses on commercial relationships with a large number of

independent music businesses. We work with labels (+500 rightsholders) in a very diverse number of territories, as well as with global rights organisations (A&R companies, aggregators, DIY, record labels).

The role is an opportunity to take a global view of the music industry at a major music streaming platform.

You will support the team handling existing and new licenses, managing and negotiating licenses from existingc independent Recording companies globally, develop key relationships with the relevant rights holders and acquiring new catalogues.

What you will do:

  • Assist the team handling long-term relationships with all independent actors in the music industry

  • Music Rights acquisition from all independent labels for both D2C and B2B opportunities in all markets where Deezer is or will be operating

  • Analyze financial impact of labels acquisition and costs

  • Keep up-to-date with changes in legislation and music industry moves

  • Follow-up new developments and establish a collaborative relationship with the teams internally (Legal,

  • Reporting, Editorial, Marketing, Product & Business Development) to make sure we are compliant with our contracts with labels.

  • When needed, negotiate with labels any new development or offer that might help support Deezer’s objective

  • Be the business point of contact for labels and a Deezer spokesperson towards the industry.


Preferred experience

This role is excellent for a person with:

  • 2 years experience within the music, content or entertainment industry

  • Relationship management experience

  • High attention to detail

  • Hybrid profile: must be comfortable working with contracts as well as excel modelling.

  • Broad understanding of copyright and legal environment within the music industry

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, business-oriented/ commercial approach

  • Fluency in English is mandatory, French is a plus.

  • Capacity to work cross-functionally
