As part of our exponential growth, we are strengthening our internal engineering team and opening a Senior QA Engineer position in our Message Squad.

About the Message Squad 

The Message Squad is dedicated to creating and evolving services that enable our clients to interact with various text-based communication channels. Initially focused on email, using Java 21 and Spring Boot, we have since expanded to a Golang-based solution that supports any text channel through a system of adapters.

Our services already include SMS and WhatsApp, with plans to integrate Facebook Messenger, Instagram, RCS, and more. We use gRPC for synchronous communication and RabbitMQ for asynchronous messaging. RabbitMQ is central to our scaling strategy and requires careful handling to maintain message state consistency. Our primary data store is PostgreSQL.

QA and the Shift-Left Approach 

On the QA side, we develop and maintain automated tests using Kotlin and Gherkin. Our test coverage extends across:

• UI tests

• Backend API tests

• RabbitMQ interactions (simulating specific messaging scenarios)

We practice a shift-left approach, involving QA from the earliest stages of feature planning. This ensures we maintain a user-centric perspective, influence implementation details when necessary, and distribute test coverage responsibilities among QA, frontend, and backend teams.

What’s next for the Message Squad?

In the coming year, we plan to:

• Expand our text-channel integrations to include Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and RCS.

• Enhance existing features, such as enriched text formatting and forwarding capabilities.

• Collaborate on cross-team features with product owners and other squads.

• Support client issues in partnership with project management.

Our team currently consists of:

• 2 QA engineers

• 6 backend developers

• 2 frontend engineers

• 1 team lead

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience in automated testing (Kotlin preferred, but other languages such as Java are welcome).

• Understanding of message queues (RabbitMQ preferred).

• Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).

• Because we integrate with various communication protocols such as IMAP/SMTP for email, SMPP for SMS, and external APIs for platforms like WhatsApp, our QA engineers need adaptability and a willingness to learn new standards quickly. We encourage deep dives into logs, database queries, and active problem investigation to identify root causes and maintain a high-quality user experience.
