Job description

DNA Script

DNA Script is a leading company in the production of nucleic acids for genomic, synthetic biology and biopharmaceutical applications.

Our clean, efficient Enzymatic DNA Synthesis (EDS) technology, implemented on a benchtop instrument (the SYNTAX), accelerates innovation in life science and biotechnology through the decentralization of rapid, on demand and high quality DNA synthesis.

Our approach builds upon nature's billions of years of evolution in enzymatically synthesizing DNA, setting new standards for assembling nucleic acids to accelerate scientific discovery and DNA/RNA production in disciplines with profound impacts upon humanity.

DNA Script has a broad stable of high quality investors and is capitalized to continue its progress to full commercialization of the technology and products. We are building an organization across our two sites, in Paris and San Francisco, with the talent, skills and attitude to achieve our mission: to unlock the power of “DNA-write”.

This is an opportunity for a dynamic individual to join an international and highly skilled team, and to make significant contributions to commercializing a technology with far-reaching potential across the biological sciences and beyond.

The Role

The Synthesis Process team oversees the optimization of the synthesis process, with the final goal of improving the purity and length of our product. We are free to test anything to get there, on the biochemical side (e.g. pH, concentrations, additives) and on the physical side (e.g. temperature, shaking, volumes, robots). The optimization process requires reagent screening that are usually performed on a liquid handling automated platform.

The team is looking for a motivated individual to participate in synthesis process development. The candidate will take an active part in the operation of several liquid handling platforms, by preparing, launching, and monitoring the optimization experiments. He or She will need to become autonomous in the preparation of the new reagents, manipulation of the robots, and the handling of synthesized DNA Strands. Rigor will be particularly important as each experiment will need to be carefully carried-out and appropriately documented. The candidate will also be responsible for contributing to the analysis of the results. Collaboration and coordination with the other team members will be essential to the successful development of a purer and better product.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Launch and monitor exploratory synthesis runs on several liquid handling platforms
  • Prepare new reagents as needed for the optimization
  • Carefully document each experiment : tested conditions, reagents used, outcome
  • Keep track of liquid handlers' performance over time
  • Partial analysis of the results of the experiment
  • Participate in good laboratory practices
  • Support the team operations to meet the needs of the project
  • Actively contribute to critical company milestones, with a willingness to work outside immediate area of expertise when required

Experience:

  • Bachelor in Life Science / Biology / Biochemistry / Chemistry
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in Life science or chemistry R&D labs
  • Basic knowledge in biochemistry
  • Good knowledge of lab best practices
  • Willingness to work on automated systems
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Very rigorous and autonomous
  • Good level in English
  • Highly motivated and proactive
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Recruitment Process:

  • Initial screening with the hiring manager
  • Day interview at the office (or remote) with the manager, cofounders, HR and the rest of the team
  • Reference Checks
  • Timing: 2-3 weeks
