Mission
Adverse weather conditions are an unavoidable challenge for autonomous driving. Rain, snow and fog impact massively the environment perception by common sensor technologies. To get around these effects, field data needs to be acquired, including weather metrics. Climatic chambers allow for reproducible weather conditions but are not perfectly representative of real-world conditions. A solution to acquire field data is an automated setup racking sensors of interest (LiDARS and radars), triggered by weather indicators. This would allow to build a robust dataset of perception sensors in degraded weather conditions. As the architecture of the automated station has been defined, the main hardware components are readily available and installed. The objective of the internship is to develop the software architecture the components within the existing Easymile robotic stack (ROS-based) and to deploy a first operational version of the station.
The main tasks are:
Analysis of the current state: Understand the proposed infrastructure (hardware, network) and the existing software components to use
Design the solution: Propose a architecture for the solution to develop and integrate
Develop a prototype: Implement the solution in a first version to be tested and operated
Deploy the a prototype: Install the solution into the field up to the commissioning phase
