The position

Job description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Chemical Engineer to join our dynamic
start-up.

This is a technical role where you will play a crucial part in developing and implementing our groundbreaking CO2 conversion technology. You will be involved in designing and overseeing the construction of our Demo plant, the first of its kind, and will contribute to key decisions throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play a leading role in the detailed design, calculations, and simulations to develop our new CO2 conversion technology and contribute to the construction of the Demo plant, working collaboratively with the team and engineering companies.

  • Innovate and develop cutting-edge solutions to enhance the technology and ensure the process is efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable., applying your deep technical expertise while actively participating in their implementation.

  • Reviewing construction plans, process drawings, and documents to verify compliance with project requirements. Integrate regulatory and safety considerations into the design of the Demo
    plant, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards while working to minimize environmental emissions.

  • Estimate operational expenditures (OPEX) and optimize costs for the Demo plant by identifying the appropriate quality and specifications of solvents and gases, such as purity levels, to ensure efficient and effective process operation.

  • Participate in site selection and oversee the planning and preparation of the site, including coordinating with local authorities and stakeholders to address any site-specific requirements or constraints.

  • Managing timeline, budget and scope through the design and construction phase.

  • Directly contribute to the commissioning, operational testing, start-up and shutdown of the
    Demo plant, ensuring it is built to design standards and performs as intended.

  • Oversee the design and installation of plant utilities (e.g., water, steam, compressed air, etc.)
    and electrical systems, ensuring they meet project and regulatory requirements.

  • Create detailed technical documentation, guidelines, process specifications, standard operating
    procedure to ensure compliance with chemical industry best practices.

  • Actively engage in hands-on tasks and provide technical guidance, working alongside junior
    engineers and team members to drive innovation and excellence.


Preferred experience

Required Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD in a technical field: chemical engineering, or related field

  • Minimum 5 years in a technical role within the chemical industry (engineering, procurement,
    construction), with specific experience in designing or building pilot / demo plants.

  • Proven expertise with project management tools and methodologies.

  • Self-motivated and proactive, able to adapt, prioritize, and manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments.

  • Excellent communicator and team player, with strong verbal, written, and collaboration skills.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to learn quickly with minimal guidance.

  • Fluency in English is required; French is a plus

  • Willingness to travel and spend time abroad for meetings and commissioning.

    Nice-to-have

  • Safety certifications (HAZOP, HAZID, ATEX…)

  • Expertise in process simulation (Aspen HYSYS, Aspen plus, ProII…)

  • Familiarity with heterogenous / homogenous catalytic systems

  • Familiarity with electrolyzer systems

  • Experience with gas / liquid / solid and high-pressure processes
