In the BioAI department, we advance the boundaries of healthcare and medical science through a combination of biology and artificial intelligence expertise. Notably, we are developing the next-generation vaccines and biopharmaceuticals for cancer treatment and prevention and therapy of infectious diseases. By joining us, you will contribute to this effort in collaboration with scientists, engineers and biologists from both InstaDeep and BioNTech.

In this position, you will be working closely with our team of researchers and engineers to help design the next generation of pharmaceutics based on mRNA technology. The output of this work will help medical practitioners and scientists advance our understanding of general and personalized treatments that improve clinical outcomes and profoundly impact peoples’ lives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and develop the lab work strategy with particular emphasis on experimental approaches pursued. Provide advice on best practises as well as procedural details in relation to generation of laboratory data for performance testing and evaluation.
  • Serve as internal and external point of contact for communication in matters relating to wet lab experiments and work.
  • Develop computational biology software and provide technical guidance for the same. Conduct rigorous data analysis and statistical modeling of experimental data to interpret results, and help improve computational and experimental workflows.
  • Report results clearly and efficiently, internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
  • Write high-quality, maintainable, and modular code with precise documentation.
  • Requirements

  • Master's, PhD degree or equivalent experience in computational/systems biology, bioinformatics, or related quantitatively focused field.
  • Previous experience in wet and dry lab experiment design, demonstrated via previous work and/or research publications.
  • Experience working with fundamental methods from molecular biology and biochemistry. Extended experience with -omics methods and experimental methods for DNA/RNA and protein data.
  • Strong software engineering experience using Python. Experience using Linux and Git.
  • Data science experience including data visualisations, clustering, statistical testing and regression/classification methods.
  • Awareness of and interest in machine learning and deep learning.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, and work permit for the considered location.
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience working with DNA or RNA systems is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput data generation methods, e.g. NGS, Massive Parallel Reporter assays, FACS, Single-cell sequencing, or microarray technologies, preferably with a focus on RNA systems.
  • Proven track-record of research publications in respectable journals.
  • Experience with DevOps & CI/CD, and/or MLOps.
  • Specialist computing knowledge, such as database management, high-performance computing, or deployment.
  • Experience with and desire to mentor colleagues.
  • Experience bringing computational biology and machine learning research to production.
