Join us to be a part of the AI revolution!
InstaDeep is looking for Applied Research Scientists to join our BioAI team. You will leverage mathematical modeling, optimization techniques, and numerical methods to tackle complex challenges in the field of personalized medicine. Your contributions will enable more accurate, efficient, and scalable computational tools that can significantly enhance clinical outcomes and shape the future of medical treatments.
The Applied Research Scientist role combines elements of research and practical application. Applied Research Scientists will focus on leveraging their deep understanding of scientific principles and research methodologies to address real-world problems and develop innovative products in the area of RNA therapeutics.
The role requires strong collaboration within the BioAI department, as well as across the company, and with our strategic partners, such as BioNTech. Applied Research Scientists bridge the gap between theoretical research and real-world implementation by using their expertise to solve specific problems or develop new technologies.
Responsibilities
Design and implement proof of concept methods as well as bench-marking with state-of-the-art computational methods in RNA research.Design, develop, and optimise scalable algorithms, focusing on mathematical modelling, optimisation, and numerical techniques to solve complex biomedical problems.Analyse large biological datasets (e.g. RNA-seq, single-cell RNA sequencing) as well as clinical data, using statistical models. Use Bayesian inference and other probabilistic methods to manage uncertainty in biological data.Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to validate and refine mathematical models using experimental and clinical data.Write modular code with robust documentation, focusing on mathematical rigour.Report and present experimental results and research findings, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.Upon request, collaborate with other groups' activities, including but not limited to presenting the company to new prospective clients, participating in calls and meetings, and representing InstaDeep at conferences/events.Requirements
PhD, or equivalent experience in applied mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics, computational biology, computer science, or a related quantitative field.Expertise in mathematical modeling, statistical testing, and optimization algorithms, ideally with an emphasis on biomedical applications.1+ years of experience applying numerical methods and optimization techniques in applied settings, demonstrated through academic work, publications, or industry experience. Proficiency in numerical techniques for solving ODEs, PDEs, and stochastic differential equations.A demonstrated ability to successfully deliver high-quality research, for example through the publication of scientific papers in journals or conferences.Excellent communication skills and collaborative spirit.Strong experience in software engineering practices (Python, Git, Docker, Linux).Desirables
A strong foundation in biology, biochemistry, and/or biophysics. They understand the fundamental principles of molecular biology and are familiar with the structure-function relationships of biological macromolecules.Ability to work with high-dimensional datasets (e.g. RNA-seq data, and clinical data). The ideal candidate must have experience working with large biological datasets, databases and their API technologies.Proficiency in a standard machine learning framework (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).Wet lab experience specifically in the areas of biophysical assay development, protein purification and mRNA manipulation is a plus.Experience in MLOps, including CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices. Our commitment to our people
We empower individuals to celebrate their uniqueness here at InstaDeep. Our team comes from all walks of life, and we’re proud to continue encouraging and supporting applicants from underrepresented groups across the globe. Our commitment to creating an authentic environment comes from our ability to learn and grow from our diversity, and how better to experience this than by joining our team? We operate on a hybrid work model with guidance to work at the office 3 days per week to encourage close collaboration and innovation. We are continuing to review the situation with the well-being of InstaDeepers at the forefront of our minds.
