Role description

Are you eager to push the boundaries of AI and leverage your academic and professional knowledge to real-world applications? If so, then this role might be for you!

We are looking for a talented and motivated intern to join our team. As an intern, you will be working with experts from our Applied Research team, applying state-of-the-art Deep Learning (DL) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) techniques to real-world industry problems.

The goal of the internship is to apply RL to automate the design of printed circuit boards (PCBs). This is a spatial arrangement problem which involves placing and connecting components strategically to form an electronic circuit layout, optimised for manufacturability and efficiency. This problem can be formulated in many ways such as a constrained optimisation problem or a Markov decision process.

Your role will consist in building and developing code to tackle some parts of the PCB design process. You will have the opportunity to carry out the full research and design process, from innovative ideas to implementation, experimentation and result analysis, continuously refining solutions based on feedback. This is a unique chance to deepen your technical and professional skills, and improve our cutting edge DL/RL algorithms.

Internship duration: 6 months

Role responsibilities

  • Support the efforts of the Applied Engineering team through the development of novel methods and applications under the guidance of our Research Engineers.
  • Design and implement ML and RL methods to improve our products.
  • Contribute to team research and potentially publications.
  • Report and present experimental results and research findings verbally and in writing.
  • Write high-quality, maintainable, well-documented, and modular python code.
  • Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters programme (or recent graduate) in a related STEM discipline.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in machine learning and deep learning, including experience with a deep learning framework such as Jax, PyTorch and/or Tensorflow.
  • Knowledge in, and ideally experience with reinforcement learning.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative spirit.
  • Good programming skills in Python.
  • Work permit for the UK for the duration of the internship.
  • This internship requires the candidate to be present 5 days per week in the office.
  • Our commitment to our people

We empower individuals to celebrate their uniqueness here at InstaDeep. Our team comes from all walks of life, and we’re proud to continue encouraging and supporting applicants from underrepresented groups across the globe. Our commitment to creating an authentic environment comes from our ability to learn and grow from our diversity, and how better to experience this than by joining our team? We operate on a hybrid work model with guidance to work at the office 3 days per week to encourage close collaboration and innovation. We are continuing to review the situation with the well-being of InstaDeepers at the forefront of our minds.

Right to work: Please note that you will require the legal right to work in the location you are applying for.
