InstaDeep, recently acquired by BioNTech, is a pioneering research company at the forefront of AI innovation. Working hand-in-hand with laboratory teams at BioNTech, our RNA research group advances the state-of-the art in deep learning applied to RNA science. Our expertise is shared across BioNTech to enable them to maintain their world leading position in the field of RNA therapeutics. As a Technical Program Manager you will enable and initiate projects that advance the frontier of RNA biochemistry and treatments/therapeutics. In this role you will have the opportunity to work with teams of world-leading experts in AI and biochemistry and BioNTech’s state-of-the-art facilities.

This role has diverse responsibilities, and will include aspects of project management, product ownership, business development, and others depending on your skills and identified opportunities. To a degree it can be adapted to the holder. An indicative example of possible work activities: follow up comments from internal users to identify a new opportunity; discuss with the users to gather requirements; approach management for buy-in; work with UX designers to specify features; project manage an engineering team to complete the opportunity, with less or more independence depending on your experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee cross-functional technical projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with company objectives and timelines.
  • Draw support from across the company to ensure successful completion of ambitious initiatives at the intersection of AI and pharmaceutics. Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and scientific teams to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with project goals.
  • Develop and maintain project roadmaps, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Summarising research findings, and utilise as a basis for formalising research and business strategies across projects. Create and maintain technical project documentation, including plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Serve as a key liaison with stakeholders to understand their needs, align priorities, and ensure clear communication between technical teams, product managers, and executive leadership
  • Facilitate communication across departments, ensuring clarity and alignment on goals and priorities.

    • Required Skills

  • Professional experience as a software engineer, research engineer, or research scientist.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Capable of evaluating emerging AI technologies, assessing their potential impact, and integrating them into technical programs and workflows to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Understand complex biotech systems, platforms, and products to provide technical insights during decision-making.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
  • Proven ability to build relationships and manage expectations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly effective communicating with stakeholders of all kinds, both technical and non-technical, in writing and verbally, in English.

    • Desirable Skills

  • Ability to understand and leverage AI-driven tools for drug discovery, genomics, bioinformatics, clinical data analysis, and bioprocess optimisation.
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, Smartsheet, or Microsoft Project).
  • Experience communicating to audiences at corporate leadership level.
  • Designing and specifying user interfaces and user interaction.
  • Ability to institute processes to enable self-management in teams.
  • Experience in geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Educational or professional background in biomedicine or machine learning.
