Job description

In turbomachinery, the physical and technological complexity of a high-pressure turbine requires engineers to use a coupling tool for aerodynamic solvers. This tool combines 3D Navier-Stokes (NS) blade simulations with 2D axisymmetric calculations (throughflow modeling) of the entire high-pressure turbine. Through various optimization loops, the aim of the coupling tool is to achieve consistency in thermodynamic quantities and aerodynamic results between NS3D and 2D simulations.
One of the algorithms within the tool searches for 2D kinetic moment profiles to impose, in order to align the deviations of the 2D flow with those obtained from NS3D, while still maintaining the power requirements of the turbine. Currently, this algorithm employs a poorly performing optimization method that is complex and not adaptable to future developments of the tool.

Preferred experience

Education: Engineering school or Master's degree in fluid mechanics or applied mathematics.
This internship requires theoretical knowledge in aerodynamics and numerical tools. Knowledge in turbomachinery and/or optimization, as well as practical experience in Python programming, would be appreciated. The intern should demonstrate autonomy, curiosity, and organization.
