  • Job type: Permanent, Full time

About the job

Sanofi’s Drug Substance MSAT (Manufacturing Science & Technology) team is building a Chemistry Excellence Center, driving innovation in API process design and green technologies. We are assembling an agile, world-class team focused on flow chemistry, lab automation, and process digitalization to enhance API manufacturing. This role will collaborate closely with synthetic process chemists to develop and industrialize next-generation manufacturing processes.

As a Continuous Flow Process Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and implementing intensified, scalable, and sustainable chemical processes using flow chemistry, automation, and digital modeling tools. This role involves data-driven experimentation, advanced process modeling, and digital twin development to accelerate process innovation and industrialization.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize continuous flow processes, designing experimental rigs with automated data-logging and process control systems.

  • Assess mass and heat transfer limitations in reactive and separative processes, executing experimental designs to enhance efficiency.

  • Utilize process modeling tools (e.g., Dynochem, MATLAB, gProms, ASPEN, Prosim) to build predictive models and real-time control loops.

  • Conduct experiments leveraging pre-characterized equipment to generate kinetic, thermodynamic, and transport data for model validation.

  • Implement sensor-based monitoring systems (optical and electronic), integrating data acquisition with process control algorithms for automation.

  • Analyze experimental and production data, proposing innovative solutions for enhanced efficiency and sustainability.

  • Collaborate with synthetic process chemists, data scientists, and engineering teams to drive process innovation and technology transfer.

  • Publish findings in patents, papers, and internal reports, while training and mentoring colleagues on advanced process technologies.

About you

  • Education:

    • BSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with relevant experience.

    • BSc, MSc with 5+ years or PhD with 3+ years in flow chemistry, process intensification, or chemical process engineering.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong expertise in flow chemistry and process engineering.

    • Hands-on experience with lab-scale pumps, flow reactors, and automated lab management systems.

    • Proficiency in process modeling and control using tools such as Dynochem, MATLAB, gProms, ASPEN, or Prosim.

    • Understanding of sensor integration, including optical and electronic monitoring systems.

    • Experience in designing and implementing process control loops; programming automation algorithms is a plus.

    • Familiarity with lab automation, high-throughput experimentation, and data-driven process development.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong project management skills, with experience in collaborative projects.

    • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.

    • Passion for innovation, technology transfer, and scientific publishing.

Why choose us?
