Job description

WhiteLab Genomics is dedicated to developing cutting-edge computational biological technologies and biological assets, such as vector and peptide libraries to enable the advancement of gene and cell therapies. As a recognized leader in the TechBio field, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of genomic medicine and driving innovation to develop advanced tools for the biotech industry.

As Head of Early Preclinical Research, you’ll be pivotal in overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day pre-clinical research activities across our programs. Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, you’ll guide the development of preclinical studies aimed at validating novel biological assets such as viral and non-viral vectors, cell type specific expression cassette, new chimeric antigen receptors, and in silico models contributing directly to the advancement of our portfolio. Additionally, you’ll work closely with our internal teams, particularly with our computational scientists, and external collaborators to ensure the successful design, execution, and interpretation of studies that drive innovation in gene and cell therapy delivery.

Here’s How You’ll Make an Impact:

Strategic Leadership & Team Management:

  • You’ll develop and execute a comprehensive preclinical research strategy aligned with our scientific and business objectives.

  • You’ll lead and mentor a growing team of scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

  • You’ll collaborate with our CSO and senior management to prioritize programs, set timelines and budget, and allocate resources effectively.

Preclinical Study Design & Execution:

  • You’ll oversee the design, planning, and execution of in vitro and in vivo studies for characterizing and validating biological assets designed using Whitelab’s in silico models, such as molecular libraries and engineered vectors.

  • You’ll ensure studies focus on key experimental parameters such as transduction efficiency, biodistribution, and expression specificity.

  • You’ll identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project continuity and success.

  • You’ll drive the integration of cutting-edge experimental technologies to advance the molecular characterization and reach preclinical stage.

  • You’ll ensure projects are executed to our standards and are in alignment with good practices

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • You’ll work closely with our computational scientists to integrate insights from in silico drug design pipelines into experimental designs and datasets.

  • You’ll coordinate experimental work delegated to external partners, including CROs, CDMOs, and academic collaborators, ensuring the successful execution of outsourced research.

  • You’ll collaborate with internal departments, such as business development and IP to align scientific research with broader company goals for asset development.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • You’ll work closely with our computational scientists to analyze and interpret experimental data, generating actionable insights to drive scientific and strategic decision-making.

  • You’ll prepare detailed reports, presentations, and publications to communicate findings to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • You’ll ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of data across all research activities.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • You’ll stay up-to-date on industry trends and advancements in gene and cell therapy delivery, incorporating the latest innovations into preclinical research.

  • You’ll encourage a culture of continuous improvement within WhiteLab Genomics.

Preferred experience

We’re Eager to Meet You If:

  • You have a Ph.D in a Biological Discipline Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Virology, Vectorology or a related field, with at least 7 years of relevant experience in gene therapy, cell therapy or related biotechnological applications.

  • You have comprehensive Preclinical Research Experience: Expertise in designing, conducting, and interpreting in vitro and in vivo studies in gene and cell therapy. Experience working with vector development and delivery systems is essential.

  • You have experience with External Collaborations – you have a demonstrated ability to manage relationships with CROs and external research partners to successfully execute preclinical studies.

  • You have prior experience managing or mentoring scientists and have the ability to inspire and guide a multidisciplinary research team toward achieving shared goals.

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a comprehensive track record of publications and the ability to present complex scientific findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

  • You’re a creative thinker with a history of developing innovative solutions to complex scientific challenges and can adapt quickly to evolving research needs and priorities.

  • Nice to Have: While not mandatory, experience with computational biology approaches that can support the optimization of biological assets and gene therapy delivery would be a valuable asset.

  • You’re ready to work in a vibrant hybrid environment and be on-site in Paris 2-3 days a week!
