What you will do:
The role is responsible for the operational output of Product Control (PC) teams. These teams ensure that principals and processes in place, to ensure accuracy of HSBC traded products financial statements, are independently checked for resilience and compliance with internal and external policies. The Head of Product Control is responsible for a team of circa 30 people covering 3 main areas (Core Product Control, Valuations & Analytics, Reporting) to cover Product Control presence or activity across locations and business lines.

In this role you will:
This is a high-profile role with a focused team, that is currently in a state of change and transition. The role holder will help go through a transformative process, in a changing market environment, with challenges around talent development and retention. To be successful, the role holder will:

  • Design and implement an effective organization that drives Product Control standardization, with a focus on continuous improvement, consistency, and collaboration between teams.
  • Increase efficiency and improve controls through procedure, process, and cultural change.
  • Lead Product Control frameworks/tools development (leveraging IT & Change), to achieve goals.
  • Provide consultative guidance to implement Product Control policy and change initiatives.
  • Identify and build capabilities needed to meet current and emerging business needs.
  • Handle talent management with a strategic mindset to coach and develop leaders and key talents, deploy a sustainable and inspiring culture, and ensure focus on inclusion and diversity.
  • Develop and lead the team through major challenges of migration and transformation whilst maintaining focus on controls.
  • Maintain an independent control function while ensuring governance of risks and costs.
  • Manage relationship with and advise local CFO, Global/Regional Head of Product Control, and Finance Management on strategic and operational challenges.
  • Proactive collaboration with global Product Control and Finance Teams to leverage ideas and ensure consistent services and processes.
  • Manage people-related aspects of change programs, enabling others to commit to the journey, mobilizing cross-functional resources required, and taking responsibility for the change.
  • Support partnerships between Product Control teams and business lines to facilitate sustainable infrastructure, processes, and control environment for new products.


Conditions

You should apply if you have:
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Math’s or Engineering (or equivalent), a master’s degree or MBA in Finance, or a CA/CPA professional accounting qualification, would be a plus.
  • Long-term significant and proven successful experience in Product Control.
  • Knowledge of GM products, accounting, valuations, controls, systems, and models.
  • Proven management, coaching, and consultancy skills.
  • Ability to take decisions based on analysis, experience, judgment, and advice from others.
  • Ability to deliver large scale transformations in a multicultural and complex environment.
  • Ability to establish collaborative partnerships and to influence at all levels (including C-level).
  • Ability to deploy change and identify best practices, demonstrating curiosity for emerging regulations or innovations.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into people strategy and tactical execution, and to translate complexity and ambiguity into impactful delivery.
  • Analytical skills, proactive approach to problem-solving, and strategic agility.
  • Great written and oral communication and presentation skills in both English & French.
  • High degree of commercial acumen with a high level of professional and personal integrity.
