Job description

About us

MaiaSpace is a European space tech company, designing, manufacturing and operating competitive and sustainable solutions for space mobility. We are driven by the belief that access to space is a major enabler for a better and more sustainable life on Earth, addressing the challenges faced by humanity: climate, resources, connectivity, and data. Our aim is to successfully design and test a cost-effective and reusable mini-launch vehicle by 2026.

Cryogenic Stage mechanical layout coordinator

We are looking for a mechanical layout coordinator to join one of our Cryogenic Stage Teams. Our teams design, manufacture and test the cryogenic stages.

Broadly speaking, you will be in charge of coordinating the mechanical layout and interface activities within the stage. This means that you will ensure that the position and mechanical interface of each stage system is chosen so that they are compatible with their environment and within operating parameters. You will rely heavily on a general mechanical background and on facilitating and communication skills.

In more detail, you will:

  • Coordinate and contribute to the stage mechanical layout activities (line routing, harness routing, equipment and sensors accommodation). To do so, you will interface with relevant people in and out of the Upper Stage team (architect, dynamic engineer, thermal engineer, fluid designers, structural designers, product designers, industrial leaders) and with external suppliers or partners, when relevant
  • Centralise requirements regarding mechanical layout & design: functional constraints, industrial constraints (including AIT and accessibility), environmental constraints (natural or induced), design rules, …
  • Manage stage mechanical interfaces with the support of the relevant people of the team. You will ensure that interface definitions are complete, justified and properly capitalized
  • Perform trade-offs in order to identify best technical solutions to meet mass and cost targets
  • Contribute to the management of the definition in Solidworks PDM
  • Contribute to the stage configuration management & coordinate the implementation of modifications in the mechanical design
  • Perform or supervise necessary activities to mature the layout of the stage: mechanical design, mechanical sizing, kinematic analysis, thermal analysis, vibration analysis
  • Contribute to the identification of relevant parts to ensure the mechanical accommodation of stage equipment (dampers, thermal insulations, bracketery…)
  • Contact and manage suppliers for simple mechanical products and ensure their delivery on time, on cost and on quality
  • Contribute to the management of integration anomalies on interfaces or mechanical products
  • Calculate and/or manage stage Mass, Center of Gravity and Inertia with the support of the relevant people of the team
  • Contribute to the launcher definition and justification file

Also, consistently with the Agile way of working, you may be asked to contribute more generally to mechanical design activities of the stage in collaboration with other members of the team in particular its architect.

    Preferred experience

    🛸 Specific competences & abilities:

    • Team play, communication skills, adaptability, open-mindedness and abnegation
    • Prior demonstrated experience on mechanical layout or mechanical architecture activities of vehicles (automotive, naval construction, aeronautics, space industry)
    • Prior experience in mechanical justification & finite element calculation or CAD design
    • Knowledge on bill-of-material management with Solidworks PDM or equivalent
    • Knowledge in dynamics & thermal engineering
    • Knowledge regarding electrical equipment
    • Knowledge on metallic material properties and manufacturing processes (composite appreciated)
    • English level sufficient to read and write technical documentation, to perform oral technical presentation and to interact on technical topics

    🎓 Qualification:

    • Mechanical engineering degree (+5 years post-Baccalaureate) ideally specialized in structural dynamics
    • At least 5 years experience on the related field

    🎬 Working at MaiaSpace

You will be joining a friendly multi-disciplinary team, comprised of multi-skilled people, following Agile and Scrum methodologies. This means that your role and responsibility may evolve over time with varied assignments and challenges depending on priorities and competences. Your work will be hands-on and in close contact with the final product. We are open-minded, transparent, pragmatic, result oriented and people centric. Teamwork is at the heart of how we work together and our co-workers share the same fundamental values: respect, humility, reactivity and autonomy with a passion for technical excellence.
