Job description

Founded in 2013, Soil Capital is a B-Corp Belgian agronomy firm whose mission is to connect farmers & agri-food companies to build resilient & regenerative supply chains underpinned by high integrity certification programmes. Its purpose is to empower farmers by monetising the ecosystem services of their farms and connecting them with companies committed to rebalancing our agricultural system.

To achieve our mission we engage our farmers within our regenerative agriculture programme where they get rewarded for their climate improvements. We partner with local and international players in the agri-food sector to develop low carbon and resilient value chains. We help these corporate partners transition their farmer suppliers to regenerative agriculture, thereby helping them improve their Scope 3 emissions while contributing positively to the environment and society.

Our programme is certified against ISO 14064-2, conforms with the scope of SBTi FLAG, is positioned to align with the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removal Guidance and EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework when finalised and is widely regarded in the industry as market-leading.

As we expand our reach and impact, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Value Chain Lead to join our dynamic team.

Role

Our Impact Team brings together a range of skills and expertise to design, deliver and continuously improve Soil Capital’s Regenerative Agriculture Transition Programme.

In this context, the Impact Team must make sure that the programme benefits from the best available science and technology and is aligned with the latest policy and regulations and market standards, all the while remaining practical and accessible in delivering value for farmers and corporates. The contribution the Team makes to the wider business will become even more important as the programme expands to new geographies, impact areas and agricultural sectors.

As Value Chain Lead, you will play a leading role in ensuring the programme’s design and delivery remains technically aligned with the needs of our corporate clients in the agri-food value chain with respect to their Scope 3 emissions and value chain impacts and dependencies.

Reporting directly to the Chief Impact Officer, your responsibilities will be to:

  1. Deliver continuous improvement to the technical design and implementation of the programme in order to maintain its alignment with the needs of our corporate clients in the agri-food value chain as well as the needs of farmers

  2. Contribute technical advice relating to our programme design and operation to engagements with prospective and confirmed corporate clients

  3. Manage our internal inventory and third-party public registry that safeguard our programme against the risks of double counting or claiming

  4. Serve our corporate clients with timely production of data produced by our programme in line with contractual obligations

  5. Influence relevant market standards at national and international levels that shape the operating environment for our corporate clients

  6. Analyse large amounts of sometimes complex information to identify the most pertinent strategic and tactical points for Soil Capital, including determining your own conclusions and recommendations

  7. Communicate your findings to a multi-disciplinary audience, including Management Team members, in a succinct and persuasive manner, demonstrating subject matter expertise and confidence in your conclusions

  8. Collaborate within the Impact Team and with colleagues across the business in all of the above

  9. Prioritise your workflow in agreement with the Chief Impact Officer and adapting to new information and circumstances

  10. Stay abreast of industry trends and market dynamics to inform strategic decision-making and offer value-added insights to internal and external stakeholders

Preferred experience

You will demonstrate the following qualifications and capabilities:

  1. Education: you hold a Bachelors degree or equivalent in relevant subject areas

  2. Technical Expertise: you have proven technical expertise in Scope 3 emissions reduction in agri-food value chains, spanning market standards, accounting methodologies and practical implementation

  3. Experience: you draw energy from sharing the above technical expertise accessible in clear and compelling terms to a range of corporates in the agri-food value chain

  4. Strategic Thinker: you are capable of distilling the most important points from large volumes of information related to a strategic goal and not being distracted by more tactical details

  5. Farmer First: in line with Soil Capital’s corporate values, you display the ability to always keep the farmer front and centre when considering the impacts of wider changes in the value chain

  6. Attention to Detail: you are proficient managing databases and technical documents first-hand and to a very high level of quality, including introducing your own safeguards to manage the risk of errors

  7. Communication Skills: you have strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels and communicating complex topics succinctly and persuasively; you are fluent in English, additional languages such as French, Spanish, Portuguese are a bonus

  8. Drive: you are highly motivated and eager to contribute to our mission, with a passion for sustainability and making a positive impact in the agriculture sector
