A day in the life of a Google Cloud Architect (all genders)

Reporting to the Google Cloud Solutions Director, we seek a Google Cloud Architect (all genders) who can bridge the gap between technology and business. You will play a pivotal role in driving Google Cloud adoption by providing expert technical guidance, crafting tailored solutions, and fostering strong partnerships.

Your responsibilities will encompass pre-sales activities, architectural design, solution development, and ongoing support, ensuring that clients maximize the value of Google Cloud technologies.

Your main responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and expertise to internal and customer teams, helping them design and implement robust solutions on Google Cloud
  • Provide technical presales expertise on new opportunities, contributing to requirements gathering, proposals and SOWs
  • Provide consultancy to clients on their Google Cloud architectural and engineering practices, delivering workshops as necessary
  • Work across a variety of projects, such as:
    • Modern data, AI and GenAI projects, using the latest technology on Google’s platform
    • Greenfield Google Cloud solutions and applications
    • Workload migration, and application and infrastructure modernisation programmes
  • Consult with development teams in the software development and release processes to Google Cloud, promoting Google Cloud usage and assisting with the design and architecture of proof of concepts for new cloud solutions
  • Produce high quality documentation as part of your solution development
  • Be a point of contact into Google, liaising with the Google Partner and Customer
  • Engineers to ensure our sales and project teams receive the required support from the vendor
  • Assist the Solutions Director in developing our capabilities and services portfolio.
  • Attend Google Cloud technical events and briefings, using new knowledge gained to help enable the wider team
  • Be an advocate for Google Cloud amongst colleagues, providing a valuable contribution and helping to build the internal Google Cloud community
  • Strong, successful candidates can expect accelerated career development opportunities within the Google Cloud practice

You and the role

You are someone with +2 years with core Google Cloud services, such as IAM, networking, security and operations and a strong technical background, with at least +5 years of experience in a relevant role, such as development, architecture, or site reliability engineering.

We would love if you have
  • Solid understanding and experience building systems using Google Cloud’s compute services, such as Compute Engine, and serverless platforms like Cloud Run and App Engine
  • Experience of designing solutions using Google Cloud database services, such as Cloud SQL, Spanner or AlloyDB
  • Experience with Google Cloud data technologies (e.g. BigQuery, Dataflow)
  • Experience with Google Cloud’s wider portfolio, such as Vertex AI
  • A professional-level Google Cloud certification, such as Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Developer
  • Commitment to integrating security best practices in daily tasks and projects
  • Excellence in dynamic technical landscapes and swift adaptation to deliver effectively in new environments
  • Skills in collaborative projects with distributed teams and working with agile methodologies such as Scrum
  • Excellent communication skills, with a high standard of spoken and written English
  • Willingness to stay updated on key Google Cloud technologies and innovations
  • Internal drive to learn, improve and succeed

Could be nice to have

  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform, and a clear understanding of infrastructure pipeline concepts
  • Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration with Kubernetes
  • Experience designing and implementing multi-cloud solutions
  • Additional certifications in AWS or Azure
  • Knowledge of general programming languages, such as Java and Python
