Past, present, future
Accor is the story of two friends, Paul Dubrule and Gérard Pélisson. Their revolutionary Novotel, opened in 1967, was the first to offer a complete guest experience, with swimming pools, restaurants and comfortable modern rooms. Their Novotel, in Lille, was years ahead of its time.
The two friends' creativity and audacity changed the hospitality industry in France forever, and today their dream has become Accor.
Now Accor Group manages over 5,500 properties in 110 countries and employs over 300,000 people across the world. The passion and drive to push the boundaries is still just the same, and Accor remains true to the vision of its founders.
- 2020: Accor deploys its ALLSAFE program in all its hotels and resorts around the world.
- 2021: Accor joins the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, an international organization that brings together hotel groups committed to sustainable development, and announces a global partnership with IGLTA, the international LGBTQ+ tourism association.
- 2022: ALL - Accor Live Limitless offers even more experiences to its members with a digital platform available in 100 destinations in partnership with Fever
- 2023 - 2024 : The Group places its CSR commitment at the heart of its business model and all its activities, setting ambitious goals for sustainable impact.

Commitments & Sustainability
The tourism and travel industry accounts for 8-11% of global greenhouse gas emissions and has a range of industry players, from airlines to car hire and hotels and restaurants. However we believe that hospitality is a driver of change and has a vital role to play in overcoming the environmental and social challenges facing the world. Our CSR strategy is therefore built around People and Nature, two central components of our business.
Our strategy has three key priorities:
- Stay: Make hotel operations more sustainable
- Food: Transform our food supply chain
- Explore: Promote new modes of travel
We also provide our teams with the opportunity to engage: One day per year is offered during working hours for permanent employees to undertake a mission with an association. Some examples of available missions include: meal distribution, solidarity and anti-waste tours, food collection, organizing sports events, waste collection, tutoring, and more.
ACTIONS
More than 70% of our current carbon emissions come from energy use in hotels. By carefully monitoring consumption, and then finding ways of lowering energy use, we can really impact our target of cutting emissions by 46% by 2030.
Our current priorities:
- Designing low-energy buildings
- Measuring energy consumption accurately so hotels have the information they need to make sustainable choices
- Helping hotels source green energy.
