Air Liquide is committed to the energy transition, in particular to decarbonize industry and heavy transport. Air Liquide has been developing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies for 15 years with the Cryocap™ solution. Air Liquide has a large test laboratory and pilot at the Innovation Campus Paris, to innovate in the field of CO2 capture using a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) process. Air Liquide has an adsorption process simulation tool that allows to optimize cycles and to design industrial units. The existing adsorption processes are based on the so-called "equilibrium separation" relying on the higher affinity of the adsorbent of one component of the gas mixture to be separated.
The proposed study is to investigate the possibility of enhancing the performances of the adsorption process by enhancing the diffusion of a selected molecule into the adsorbent transforming the process in a so-called "kinetic separation" process.
The objectives of the proposed placement are:
running a literature review on the adsorption processes used for the selected separation;
screen possible adsorbents to be used for the new process proposed;
define a datafile for the selected adsorbent;
propose a new PSA cycle for the new process ;
run process simulations;
compare the performances of the new process with those of the existing industrial processes
Final year engineering school student in process engineering or generalist with a process engineering option.
