EBA CLEARING was founded in 1998 by 52 European banks to operate EURO1, the first bank-owned euro clearing system. And since then, EBA CLEARING’s track record has been unmatched: for over 25 years, we have delivered pan-European payments infrastructure on time, on budget and in line with the requirements of our users across Europe. After EURO1, EBA CLEARING launched STEP2, a SEPA mass payment system for credit transfers and direct debits. What started out as a vision is now a cornerstone of the SEPA payment processing infrastructure. STEP2 connects over 4,800 payment service providers across SEPA and processes 63 million transactions per day on average. With the instant payment system RT1, EBA CLEARING launched the first pan-European payment service processing transactions 24/7/365 and within just over one second. And we are ready to take instant payments to the next level with new functionality to boost payment safety and the overall user experience.

Our mission is to turn our user community’s vision of pan-European payments into reality. To get from vision to payment infrastructure, we listen to what our users need and develop our services together with them. To be able to do that successfully, we identified six core values that guide our work.
stronger together
our user community can count on us
take ownership of your work
honesty and respect guide our decisions
diverse perspectives lead us to success
navigating challenges with efficiency
ESG values are engrained in our corporate culture, and we are committed to continuously improving our sustainability and social impact. We have embedded ESG principles into our corporate policies by setting clear guidelines for our Board, staff, and providers.
Over the last four years, the company has developed a corporate governance framework to help assess and manage its environmental and social impact and embed ESG principles into decision-making and long-term strategic planning.
EBA CLEARING has established an ESG Steering Group and nominated a Sustainability Officer to lead the research, measurement, management and implementation of environmental and social initiatives.
Each year, we set objectives and encourage our employees to participate in discussions, submit ideas, and engage in environmental and corporate volunteering activities. These activities include, for example, sustainability and disability awareness campaigns and food distribution for those in need.
In our daily office operations, we have implemented simple measures to conserve water, reduce waste, save energy, and minimise travel-related CO2 emissions.
