The position

Job description

This internship will be carried out between three departments (Biodata, Microorganisms and Nutrition, Microbiota and Health) of the Lesaffre Institute of Science and Technology. Your role will consist in digging into our microorganism collection to identify specific transporters and enzymatic activities related to putative functions. Within the time frame of the internships three targets will be explored. This bottleneck approach should reduce the number of candidates for a follow up validation work in the laboratory with ad hoc yeast or bacteria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in bioinformatics and microbiology to understand the research context, explore the relevant publications and acquire competence and autonomy in data mining.
  • Identify and extract key genomic features frow whole genome sequences and compare with established benchmark.
  • Propose and explore an experimental validation strategy.

Preferred experience

  • Pursuing a degree in Cell biology and skilled in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with biological sequence data formats, genomic databases, and bioinformatics tools.
  • First experience in wet lab with cell culture
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Curiosity and team spirit.
  • Good command in English.

The position is open for a duration of 6 months starting from January 2025.
