The position

Job description

In the context of its ambitious Research and Development program, the Lesaffre Institute for Science and Technology seeks to accelerate developing its Data Analysis capacity. The technological advances in Bioscience, in which Lesaffre is investing, lead to an increase in the amount of data generated and huge increase of experimental throughput. Thus, Lesaffre seeks to reinforce its Data Analysis/statistical team to support the 170 researchers, engineers and technicians of the Lesaffre Institute of Science and Technology with state-of-the art capacities.

The candidate will join a growing team with several senior and outstanding profiles (Bioinformaticians, Statisticians / Data Scientists, Computational Biologists…). The applicant is a doer with some leadership capacities. She/he will be involved in the multiple and diverse R&D projects that are driven by The Lesaffre Institute for Science and Technology and Lesaffre’s Business Units.

The Lesaffre Institute for Science and Technology (LIST) is located at the brand new Lesaffre International Campus, the “Forum”, a state-of-the-art facility covering 23000 m² and bringing together over 700 employees from Corporate R&D organization and the various business units of the company.

Missions:

  • Design and implement advanced statistical models, machine learning algorithms, to help researchers of cross-functional teams all around the world in their daily work
  • Build & analyze of complex Design of Experiments (DoE)
  • Communicate complex analytical findings and insights to a diverse audience (technical and non-technical stakeholders) through interactive data visualizations, reports, presentations or web-apps
  • Participate on discussions concerning orientation of future projects, valorization of results…
  • Write/participate in the drafting of standard or specific operating procedures related to statistics and machine learning
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the scientific robustness and integrity of data generated and analyzed
  • (Co)-animate and contribute to the emergence of a community around DoEs, data analysis and statistics with the company (e-learnings, trainings, …)

Preferred experience

You have :

  • A master or PhD degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 3+ years after initial training/education/studies of relevant experience as a statistician in an industrial environment or in R&D
  • Fluency in English, French is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team spirit

Prefered skills:

  • Experience applying statistical / ML methods and experimental design principles to R&D problems. Ability to solve multi-parameters problems with noisy data.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Good programming skills (R and/or Python languages) problem solving oriented
  • Experience in data manipulation / modeling and open-source analysis libraries 
  • Autonomy, excellent organization skills and the ability to identify priorities

Optional skills:

  • Good experience in Design of Experiment in R&D environment
  • Organizing & facilitating trainings or e-learnings on statistics to a scientific audience (DoE, machine learning, …)
  • Industrial experience in R&D in other fields of A.I., such as deep learning, image processing, …
