The primary mission of the Patent Engineer is to protect the inventions of a company. This involves managing all or part of the company’s industrial property sector, including all associated patents and contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Scientific and Technical Knowledge:
Understand scientific and technical concepts related to the inventions being protected, such as Acoustics, Mechanics, Electronics, Algorithms, and Signal Processing.
Collaborate closely with researchers and inventors to understand their work and translate this knowledge into intellectual property terms.
Legal Knowledge:
Master the laws and regulations related to patents in the country of operation.
Analyze existing patents to assess the novelty and originality of an invention.
Understand patent filing procedures, deadlines, and associated costs.
Writing and Communication Skills:
Draft clear and precise patent applications in collaboration with the patent office. Proficiency in languages (FR/EN/DE) is necessary.
Communicate effectively with inventors, lawyers, and patent authorities.
Analysis and Research:
Research existing patents, similar technologies, and prior art.
Critically analyze technical and legal documents.
Team Spirit and Diplomacy:
Work closely with inventors, lawyers, and company officials, requiring strong interpersonal skills.
Defend intellectual property rights while maintaining good relationships with all stakeholders.
Research Tax Credit (CIR):
Immerse in R&D teams to evaluate CIR-eligible projects and perform annual cost assessments.
Collaborate with consulting firms to organize the drafting of supporting documents and provide regular progress updates.
In case of an audit by tax authorities, organize responses to technical experts from the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
PMO Management:
Manage a portfolio of research projects (Planning, Workload, Milestone Organization).
Qualifications:
Engineering Degree in Signal Processing/Electronics: Strong background in signal processing and electronics to understand and protect related inventions.
Fluency in English and French is required (German is a plus)
