Job description

If you are an experienced Data Contributor and have been sailing in Data Tooling, Data Collection, and Cloud Infrastructure for the past 8+ years, we’ve got the right job for you! Join us as a Senior Data Engineer at Akeneo and continue overcoming new data and software challenges.

In this role, you will be leading our Data Engineering/Data Ops topics and work closely with the Data Team as well as Engineering Leaders. The Data Team is currently composed of five Analytics Engineers and one Data Engineer. At Akeneo, Data Engineers look after our Data Platform, allowing Analytics Engineers to collect, transform, expose, and leverage our data.

Today our data stack is composed of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), dbt, Airbyte, Dagster, Metabase, Amplitude, and Segment. Additionally, company-wide tools include CircleCI, Terraform, and Datadog.

Responsibilities

Technical Excellence

Design and implement end-to-end scalable solutions for Data Processing and Cloud Infrastructure, applying best-in-class development practices while managing costs and complexity. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code. Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize our data platform performance. Ex: Design and implement an orchestrator to automate data pipelines. Ex:Terraform our GCP project and build a robust framework to manage data access efficiently and thus secure our sensitive data. Ex: Identify and resolve bottlenecks in one of the Data Collection homemade components.

Collaborative Impact

Collaborate with Data Team members and Engineering Leaders to evangelize Data Engineering and Data Ops best practices, building a data culture based on the highest quality and reliability standards. Ex: After identifying frequent data quality issues with a source provider, set up an interface contract with them allowing them to be alerted if the data provided is not respecting our data quality standards.

Mentorship

Mentor other Data Team members, and drive data and software craftsmanship within the team and across the organization. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other Data Team members. Ex: Pair with Analytics Engineer on complex data collection tasks. Ex: Organise knowledge-sharing sessions on development best practices. Ex: Explain data engineering and/or software development concepts pedagogically to other Data Team members.

Visionary

Build the Data Engineering and Data Ops vision, adapting our stack to anticipate users’ needs and avoid pitfalls. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data and software development. Ex: Build the Data Engineering and Data Ops roadmap, articulating rationale for each priority and identifying opportunities based on new feature releases of available technologies.

Qualifications

Experience

You have a strong track record in designing and building end-to-end data platforms—from Data Ingestion to Data Visualization. Technical Expertise

You possess in-depth knowledge of data best practices as well as software development principles. You are fluent in scripting languages such as Python or Shell. You can write advanced SQL queries with your eyes closed. You know Linux environments and have already containerized and orchestrated applications with Docker and Kubernetes.

Communication Skills

You can effectively communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders not familiar with your expertise and work very well within a diverse team.

Adaptability

You thrive in a fast-paced, impact-focused environment and can handle uncertainties and changing requirements.

Mentoring Skills

You have demonstrated that you can mentor and grow others in previous roles, guiding less experienced colleagues through challenges so they can deliver impact.
