Context:
The Paris Brain Institute’s electrophysiology core facility (ePHYS) provides services to researchers for functional investigation of neural processes underlying brain activity. The facility offers in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo electrophysiology services applied to a variety of preclinical models ranging from 3D hIPSC cultures and brain slices to behaving animals. Our team provides specialized training, scientific technical support and data generation for advanced research projects. The core facility is embedded in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment involving more than 20 research teams.
ePHYS is recruiting a Research Engineer in in vivo electrophysiology
Job Description:
The Research Engineer will lead projects requiring in vivo electrophysiology technologies. This position is ideal for an individual interested in data acquisition and analysis using intracerebral neurophysiology.
The research projects will include EEG/ECoG recordings combined with video monitoring and possibly imaging methods (e.g. fiber photometry).
The Research Engineer will also be responsible for implementing new technologies, such as high-density recordings of neural activity. The position will also involve the analysis of data sets, with support from computational neuroscientists on site.
Main Responsibilities:
· Design experimental protocols and establish procedures for in vivo electrophysiological studies, including models of experimental epilepsy
· Implement and optimize surgical and data acquisition procedures
· Conduct research using combined video monitoring and EEG/ECoG recordings to monitor brain activity in freely behaving rodents
· Develop systems, processes, and procedures for data management
· Perform statistical and qualitative data analysis
· Report research findings to client research team
· Provide training and support to users, including for surgery, data collection and analysis
· Develop new assays and electrophysiological approaches using multi-channel silicon probes
· Expertise and strong interest in neuroscience data analysis methods
· Programming experience in languages such as Python, R, MATLAB
· Solid record of international peer-reviewed publications
Soft skills
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
· Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary and international research teams
