Join our Process Chemistry team as Head of Synthetic Enabling Technologies and you’ll lead a team to bring new assets into the synthetics portfolio and lead route selection and strategy for early clinical assets. 

Main responsibilities:

  • This person will be leading an international process chemistry team of approximately ten individuals and will serve as the primary interface between and entry point for medicinal chemistry/discovery and the rest of the drug substance organization

  • Responsible for setting up and executing on a framework, utilizing state of the art methodology and tools, for rapid and sustainable route selection decisions for each pre-clinical asset that enters Sanofi’s pipeline to support CMC development

  • Responsible for resourcing plans, molecule strategy and budgetary decisions affecting assets in your portfolio

  • This person will be responsible for rapid delivery of materials to support early team decision making either through external or internal resources

  • This person will be leading the team responsible for development of the chemical process with the with rest of the synthetics CMC for delivery of the early clinical supplies

  • This person will be responsible for leading the teams that author technical reports and the drug substance sections of the IND/IMPD filings

  • Be a member of the process chemistry leadership team and partner with other team members to ensure smooth execution of the portfolio and helping shape the organization and mentor talent

About you

Skills that you have (mandatory)

Experience:

  • Experience in leading process development teams in early process development focused on speed to patient with a proven track-record of advancing molecules into the clinic and experience in defining phase-appropriate manufacturing routes and manufacturability assessments. The candidate will have experience with authoring regulatory dossiers in support of IND/NDA (or other relevant regulatory experience)

Soft and technical skills:

  • The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing a portfolio of molecules and managing internal and external workforces across multiple geographies. The candidate needs to have demonstrated track-record of managing career development of their staff. The candidate will also need to have a demonstrated track-record of publications and external scientific presence related to their job experience. Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary CMC team (drug substance, drug product and analtyical) to define early molecule strategies

Education:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. + 10 years of experience or M.S + 15 years of experience

Languages:

  • French and English (fluency required in both)

Skills that you could improve in this new position (to develop)

Experience:

  • The candidate can develop skills to lead cross-site teams, interface with discovery colleagues in multiple locales and define the appropriate strategy to deliver the molecule to patients. The candidate will develop a methodology to rapidly choose the most appropriate route for our synthetic molecules that can sustain the molecule through commercialization. The ideal candidate will work with their team to stay abreast of key technological, strategic and regulatory changes that affect success and speed to the clinic

Skills that you could offer in addition (nice to have)

Experience:

  • Experience with novel technologies in areas biocatalysis, photochemistry, electrochemistry and artificial intelligence as design elements of a synthetic strategy geared toward large-scale production of clinical candidates

Soft and technical skills:

  • Experience in working with discovery colleagues to guide and assist in their own synthetic strategies to plan and intercept potential blocking points before molecules come to CMC
