Context of the internship
Lithium-ion batteries are present in our daily lives, they ensure the mobility of electronic devices and are now at the heart of energy transition programs. They are particularly crucial for the development of electrochemical storage of intermittently produced energy (wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, etc.), and for ensuring the autonomy of electric vehicles. The annual demand for lithium-ion batteries has been steadily increasing for more than 10 years and forecasts show an increase of a factor of 35 between 2020 and 2030 (2.8 million batteries expected in 2020 and 100 million in 2030) [1].
In this context of high demand for raw materials for battery production, especially lithium, new hydrometallurgical processes are being developed to produce the high-purity lithium salts required for this battery market.
Crystallization plays a crucial role in this process. Today, the simulation tools available remain limited and it is necessary to manually adjust the parameters with experimental data from the literature or test data.
The objective of this internship is to provide a more detailed understanding of the mechanisms of crystallization and to optimize the simulation of the crystallization of sodium and potassium salts by integrating the Pitzer model, in order to be able to model and predict the results.
The internship, which lasts about 6 months, will take place according to the following stages:
The internship will take place within the Mining and Metals team of the Industrial Processes department of Technip Energie's Paris center.
