Contexte’s mission is to provide professionals with decision-useful information, by curating and presenting factual, in-depth policy news and analysis.

We offer deep, nuanced, and verified analysis that gets as close as possible to the truth, giving our readers the expertise that helps them navigate complex topics.

We are a media outlet that is economically and editorially independent. We are employee-owned with a subscription-only model, ensuring freedom from external influence.

The company has grown rapidly since its launch in 2013. Today, we are a team of 110, including 55 journalists in Paris and Brussels.

Our political news is delivered every weekday morning to the inbox of 14,000 subscribers, who come from NGOs, private companies, public administrations, consultancies and law firms.

The new product aims to provide timely, clear and actionable information for English-speaking EU professionals, helping them stay ahead of developments and make informed decisions for their organisations.

About the role

Your mission will be to review and correct the copy in our morning daily briefing, and in articles, interviews and infographics published on Contexte EU.

You’ll have to spot typos, trim unnecessary verbiage and resolve errors, to ensure our readers can understand the things they need to know, quickly and unambiguously. In some cases, you’ll have to interact with our team of French- and English-speaking journalists as you make changes; in others, you’ll have to act independently, quickly and decisively to improve copy.

In the first instance, this will be a few hours’ work a day. To fit with our production timelines, that will normally require working early in the morning, European time, though there may be some room for flexibility.

The work could be done from our offices in Paris or Brussels, by teleworking, or even from a different timezone. It could also be done by a team of people each working a few days a week, on a rota basis.

• Outstanding attention to detail: someone able to spot errors and abolish redundancy, jargon and waffle.

• A native-level English speaker, with a passion for presenting technical topics simply and engagingly, in a clean, crisp style.

• Significant experience working in drafting, editing and proofreading, preferably in a newsroom or other journalistic environment.

• Ability to work under pressure, delivering reliably to tight daily production deadlines.

• Constructive and reactive with colleagues, communicating clearly and diplomatically, while also working independently and professionally.

• Experience working in EU affairs or energy policy is an advantage but not a requirement.
