Global MSL Excellence Director is responsible for developing strategies and plans to strengthen MSL capabilities across the globe. He/she is accountable for the definition, scope and ways of working of MSL operations and supports alignment of MSL teams along with establishment of standards for the MSL role (including guidance documents, core metrics/KPIs and training). The role is also responsible for creating and delivering relevant training for local MSL teams.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

• Support MSL establishment, onboarding, development and performance
  • Lead the creation of Field Medical professional development & continual learning programmes that ensure excellence in onboarding, and improve MSL/MSL manager performance and impact
  • Collaborate with affiliates to ensure development of MSLs/MSL Managers
  • Liaise with Affiliate Medical Affairs Heads to support the appropriate establishment and management of a MSL team
  • Define and implement a dedicated onboarding and continuous development MSL program (MSL Academy)
  • In partnership with the Global Learning & Development team, develop the strategy for skills (technical and soft skills) development for the MSL function
  • Collaborate with Therapeutic Area Leads across all TAs to ensure integration of TA scientific content into MSL training and operational materials
  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to ensure availability of appropriate and efficient MSL related systems (CRM), tools and processes and incorporate KPIs into these systems
  • Provide robust strategic guidance and insights regarding the diverse needs of Field Medical worldwide, to support alignment of initiatives with company priorities
  • Act as a MSL subject matter expert. Provide insight, guidance, influence and expertise that ensures global vision for MSL role is well understood

• Identify and implement MSL standards and best practices
  • Define a Dashboard to monitor MSL performance with a strong focus on outcomes-based reporting
  • Establish and maintain a set of global standards for MSL operations to assure similar responsibilities and activities worldwide
  • Establish and maintain a set of MSL capabilities
  • Lead and deliver best practices
  • Foster MSL efficiency

• Animate the MSL community
  • Ensure robust insight generation, capture and sharing across the organization
  •  Develop actions for career and skills (technical and soft skills) development
  • Identify and utilize appropriate learning technologies to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of training

Reporting Relationship

• Reports to the head of International Medical Operations (within GMPA)

Budget responsibility

• Manage any assigned budget for MSL Excellence related activities

Education, Experience and Preferred Skills

• Doctoral degree in medicine or life science related discipline (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD)
• Significant experience (more than 10 years) in a global medical affairs organization

• MSL or MSL manager experience
• International experience with an understanding of different cultures and ways of working
• Collaborative mindset
• Ability to think strategically and understand needs from the sectors, zone and affiliates
• Ability to lead the creation and implementation of strategic plans that are aligned with the group overall strategy
• Proven ability to work successfully in a complex, global, matrix organization
• Highly developed consultative skills
• Results driven, customer service orientation
• Clear understanding of the compliance and regulatory requirements impacting MSL organizations
• Ability to travel internationally
• Fluent in English
