Descriptif du poste

About us

Verley is a biotechnology company based in Lyon, focused on developing dairy proteins through precision fermentation. Our aim is to offer sustainable, high-quality alternatives to traditional animal-based ingredients, contributing to the evolution of food production methods. We bring together a team of scientists and engineers with complementary expertise, working to turn promising technologies into concrete applications for the food industry.

Position overview

As Senior DSP Engineer, you will be at the heart of Verley’s scale-up strategy, ensuring a robust and efficient transition from lab-scale development to external manufacturing. Reporting to the Head of Industrialization, you will lead the design, optimization, and industrial translation of DSP (Downstream Processing) processes, acting as the technical bridge between R&D and our contract manufacturing partners.

This role involves hands-on work, as well as frequent interactions with external partners to support scale-up and production — with travel required to our CMOs in France, Mexico, Italy, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Scale-up

  • Optimize and validate downstream processes (e.g. separation, filtration, chromatography, drying) developed at lab and pilot scale.

  • Ensure process robustness and reproducibility as part of industrial transfer.

  • Define process parameters and critical control points in preparation for industrial implementation.

Interface with CMOs (Production Scale)

  • Act as the technical point of contact for DSP during the transfer and monitoring of production at CMOs.

  • Support on-site DSP-related activities (e.g., scale-up trials, troubleshooting, batch reviews).

  • Ensure alignment between lab-scale data and industrial performance, and propose improvements when needed.

  • Contribute to the review and validation of production documentation (batch records, protocols, etc.).

Cross-functional Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate with upstream, analytics, and QA teams to ensure coherent and scalable bioprocesses.

  • Contribute to the drafting of tech transfer documentation, process descriptions, and risk assessments.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives based on production feedback and analytical results.
