AXA Climate and Altitude

AXA Climate has 4 business units to support its clients and partners, based on expertise: Insurance, Training, Consulting, and SaaS Products. Globally, we are a team of +200 climate experts, headquartered in Paris, spread over 5 continents and driven by the same desire for impact. Our purpose is to help Planet Earth become a true stakeholder of all companies, in the same way that employees, customers and shareholders are!

Altitude is the brand of our SaaS business. Our purpose is Adaptation. We build solutions, for decision makers, to enable climate and environmental adaptation. Our products are tailor-made for each persona: Private Equity firms, Agricultural cooperative, etc. We are +30 people working on it: product managers, designers, developers, business developers, etc.

We are autonomous within AXA Climate, but we work closely with the consulting and Science teams. We strongly believe that success is collective and we play as one team.

Altitude: 3 products strongly relying on data

Altitude ecosystem is built a bit like a startup studio. There are already 3 Altitude products: for investors, for corporates and for agriculture. We have +50 clients and are quickly growing. You can know all about our products here: www.axa-altitude.com

They are all running with our GIS Compute Engine modeling climate risks globally, our “Crown jewels”. For any geolocation in the world, we measure climate risks today and tomorrow for different scenarios (such as flood, heatwaves, wildfire, etc.). We also model biodiversity-related risks.

We are scaling the Data team, at the heart of Altitude value proposition, with 3 new recruitments including you!

Your mission as Altitude CTO & Head of Data

Your role is double: as a CTO of Altitude and as a Head of Data.

As head of data, you will be leading the data team composed today of 2 data engineers, 1 PM and 1 climate scientist. The mission is to Manage, continuously improve and provide state-of-the-art climate and nature data to allow successful and high-performing risk assessments for Altitude Products.

As technology is quickly evolving and our products growing, there are ambitious challenges to take. We will be happy to tell you more about it, but note that the mission includes:

1. Designing a new geospatial data engine (tech strategy, architecture, etc.) matching our new products needs and ambition.

2. Building it in the next months with the data engineering team, and state-of-the-art technologies.

3. Expanding our modeling capabilities (science + datascience) to cover more climate and nature risks, handle more scenario and time horizons for our clients.

As CTO, you will work hand in hand with Altitude Ecosystem leader to ensure the success of Altitude. Your mission includes:

1. Actively contributing to the launch of new Altitude products, and enabling the scaling up of more mature products.

2. Supporting technical leaders and engineering managers (employees AND contractors working on Altitude products) through training, recruiting and mentoring.

3. Ensuring security and compliance, managing infrastructure and related decisions, developing the quality culture, implementing lean management in the day to day, etc.

• Experience: you already have 10+ years of experience in tech & data roles at a high growth B2B company

• You are an entrepreneur, you like to launch and grow new businesses

• You have experience with Agile framework, and you embrace the lean management philosophy.

• You are a data engineering expert, with expertise in geospatial data and data intensive applications. You are mastering Python, PostgreSQL, and PostGIS.

• Solution-oriented: You are a problem solver, you look for pragmatic ways to move forward efficiently.

• Tech-team management: You are a leader, you are driving engagement of people in your team, you help them grow.

• Project management in complex organisation: You know how to manage a project, handling relationships and dependencies with several stakeholders. You are confortable in a fast changing environment.

• You are confortable with AWS Services (especially Serverless services), Typescript (90% of Altitude code base), and serverless framework.

• You are confortable with Terraform, React, Gitlab CI/CD.

• Fluent in English and French
