Your work environment:

The headquarters of the AXA Group (GIE AXA) brings together our corporate activities. It provides guidance and support to subsidiaries around the world, to ensure the coordination and monitoring of the Group's global strategy, the application of its standards, the consistency of commercial approaches and the sharing of best practices. The headquarters gathers approximately 1000 employees and is distinguished by its strong international culture (45 nationalities), which makes it a rich and stimulating place to work.

Within the Group, you will join the Join the Group Sustainability Team and play a crucial role in amplifying our sustainability strategy through upskilling, awareness raising, and cultural transformation.

The Group Sustainability Team has 3 strategic pillars:

(1) Acting as a key partner for our customers, economy and society on climate transition and adaptation through AXA’s climate strategy

(2) Enhancing AXA’s social impact through the development of its inclusive insurance strategy

(3) Amplifying our sustainability strategy through volunteering, scientific philanthropy and upskilling.

Within this Department, you will be part of the team ESG Integration and Philanthropy who is leading (1) the management of the network of sustainability lead in entities including the annual maturity assessment survey (2) the volunteering engagement and sustainability linked philanthropy partnerships (3) Upskilling, awareness raising and sustainability transformation.

Your job and daily missions:

JOB PURPOSE

Within the ESG integration and Philanthropy team, the sustainability project manager will focus on the volunteering and philanthropy programs.

AXA Atout Coeur started in France 1991 with the idea to give back to society through AXA’s employees. Since then the program became truly international under the name AXA Hearts in Action. In 2023, 31 AXA entities (representing more than 94% of AXA’s employees) have done at least one volunteering activities, mobilizing 37 000 employees during one of the 3000 activities organized. To go further AXA set itself a target of a participation rate of 50% (1 every 2 employee in the world) giving time for good in 2026. This objective has been validated by AXA’s Management committee and is now part of the main company’s objectives (AXA for progress Index).

AXA is also an active support for philanthropy projects aligned with its sustainability strategy namely climate and environment as well as inclusive protection and humanitarian aid. Example of recent philanthropy partnerships : Tara Ocean, ORRAA, Pierre Claver, Croix Rouge …

To support AXA’s ambition on this Sustainability Strategy, this job is key to : i) mobilize employees across the entities to give back to society, ii) contribute to raise awareness around environmental and social issues through partnerships with non profits, iii) bring back knowledge from non profits or social business to support AXA’s sustainability journey

DIMENSION

The scope is global, spanning AXA Group and its entities in 50+ countries, both emerging and mature economies. It involves:

  • the organization of volunteering events with a global scale:
    • Coordinate the AXA week for good together with the Group Communication team – about 30 000 employees mobilized;
    • Deploy, enrich, animate the AXA Hearts in Action global volunteering program in particular pilot and scale the pro bono day concept;
    • Benchmarking with best practices;
    • Managing reporting;
    • Support AXA Headquarter team to implement volunteering program.
  • The lead or contribution to other projects involving the engagement of AXA employees and related to the sustainability strategy.
  • Sourcing and managing the philanthropy partnerships with a global reach and aligned with the sustainability strategy.
  • Manage submission and contribute to the work of the philanthropy governance bodies
  • Supporting the achievement of the targets of the AXA for Progress Index with a direct contribution to the achievement the target on volunteering (50% of employees engaged by 2026)

CONTEXT AND MAJOR CHALLENGES

  • Challenge and motivate top management, coordinate entities/market as well as internal (HR, communication…) and external stakeholders (Nonprofits, NGOs, consultant to enable the AHIA program to reach the next level and achieve its target of 50% engagement rate
  • Capacity to absorb current trends and best practices on the volunteering and philanthropy field to identify what could be implemented at AXA
  • Be proactive and creative to give employees the will to engage with AXA to give back to society
  • Identify synergies between philanthropy and volunteering and business.
  • Federate, upskill and advise Group level, local level and external stakeholders to adopt a coherent, transversal and forward-looking strategy
  • Ability to lead several projects simultaneously with high expectations and exposure

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Within the Group Sustainability team, this person will lead project management to support the achievement of sustainability targets by amplifying the sustainability strategy through volunteering and support the company’s cultural transformation on sustainability integration. Lead the non-cultural philanthropy partnerships aligned with the sustainability strategy.

Key missions will include:

  • Volunteering
    • Expected contribution: Deploy and steer a strategy and a roadmap enabling AXA to reach its objective of 50% engagement rate in volunteering activities
    • Major actions/tasks:
      • Steer and update the Group volunteering strategy and develop an ambitious roadmap with key stakeholders (communication, human resources, AXAAtout Coeur, entities and markets)
      • Coordinate the AXA Week for Good every year with group communication and contribute to the organization of the AXA Week for Good at AXA Headquarters.
      • Contribute to the organization of any other volunteering initiatives for AXA Headquarters with relevant stakeholders (communication team, HR etc…)
      • Work with communication to raise awareness around the program and reward the most engaged employees
      • Collaborate with entities to test and expand a pro bono initiative aimed at assisting social entrepreneurs and/or NGOs by connecting them with volunteers who can offer their professional skills. Coordinate entities, favor best practice sharing and contribute to scale best initiatives
      • Organize the reporting of volunteering activities twice a year
      • Present results and action plan to top management
      • Ensure AXA representation within coalitions/alliances to share and get practices
      • Watch for best practices
  • Environmental and social philanthropy partnerships 
    •  Expected contribution: identify, build and manage partnerships in alignment with the sustainability strategy
    •  Major actions/tasks:
      • Source projects and partners to be supported in alignment with the corporate sustainability strategy and demonstrating interest to our internal stakeholders
      • Revamp the philanthropy strategy and evolve partnerships’ selection criteria
      • Steer the philanthropy committee four time a year
      • Work with Group communication to leverage philanthropic partnerships, creating content and awareness
      • Philanthropic projects’s follow up: contract, administration, communication, interim and final report and any events that can occur over the duration of the projects
      • Identify synergies between philanthropy and other items of the sustainability strategy especially volunteering and upskilling
      • Coordinate philanthropy across entities and maintain guidelines
      • Organize reporting at least once a year
  • Team’s support
    • Expected contribution: Supporting the ESG Integration team on day-to-day matters relating to the Group’s Sustainability Strategy and commitments
    • Major actions/tasks:
      • Conduct research, benchmarking and analysis on key sustainability topics
      • Occasionally contribute or lead additional projects in the scope of the team or of the broader sustainability team
      • Contribute to the Group’s disclosures, information for reporting, external rating agencies and other external stakeholders (e.g. investors, clients, partners, NGOs)
      • Help preparing strategic communications and onboarding entities on sustainability matters
      • Provide regular updates for Top Management on strategic sustainability matters: preparation of internal memos and presentations (e.g. presentations to the Role in Society Steering Committee (RISSC), memorandum to the Management Committee).
      • Represent AXA within coalitions/alliances to (re)define the standards on key sustainability topics (e.g. UN organizations, ORSE, Admical …)

Profil recherché

MAIN COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCES

  • An advanced degree, preferably with a specialization in sustainability or a specific sustainability-related expertise (e.g., climate, biodiversity, social impact)
  • Prior 5-7 years of experience in a corporate, consulting or in an NGO
  • Good knowledge of social and environmental nonprofits and entrepreneurship ecosystems
  • Track record with large scale volunteering event project is a plus
  • Strong project management skills, able to conduct complex projects with many actors
  • Ability to manage non-financial reporting
  • IT skills (Microsoft office) – Good knowledge of Excel
  • Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken
