Our Cloud Infrastructure team (part of our CloudOPS group, working alongside Performance optimisation and developer experience teams) empowers Back Market engineers with reliable and sustainable infrastructure services across Europe, the US, and APAC region.
We’re currently searching for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and mentor this talented infrastructure team. You'll report to the previous manager, who is taking on CloudOPS scope. This is a great opportunity to step into an established role, supporting an group of 8 experienced engineers, who are based in Paris, Barcelona, and remotely in France.
What you'll be doing :
Lead, mentor, and empower a highly skilled cloud infrastructure team of 8 engineers, fostering a culture of trust, autonomy, and continuous improvement Collaborate closely with your colleagues in our CloudOps Group, including SRE and Engineering Productivity teams, partnering actively with Staff Engineers and stakeholders across Back Market to build relevant, adopted infrastructure servicesHandle operational responsibilities gracefully: coordinating incidents, maintaining calm, and managing an effective and robust on-call rotationTreat infrastructure as a product, developing clear metrics-driven approaches to measuring service usage and satisfaction. Examples of our tailored internal services include:Custom Kubernetes resources for provisioning Buckets, Key-Value stores, databases, and protected public endpoints or secure privilege-escalation tooling to support engineers during on-call incidentsPrioritize and evolve your team’s roadmap iteratively, based on feedback, direct observations, and clear adoption metrics. The key success will be the balance between managing operations and the platform we buildTake ownership of cost-efficiency and sustainability initiatives within infrastructure, actively reducing Back Market’s engineering costs and carbon footprintEmbrace iteration and experimentation, supporting your team in rapidly learning from both successes and failuresHelp the team, the platform, and the technical organization to grow and evolve on our existing toolset built around Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes (GKE), Cloudflare, Terraform, Crossplane, Backstage, custom CLI, etcWe should meet if :
You bring proven experience managing infrastructure/platform engineering teams in an international technology-driven environmentYou create a team environment where team members feel like they belong and are supported to do their best workYou have a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure tooling, especially Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes (GKE), Terraform, and ideally CrossplaneYou understand infrastructure delivery as products, measuring success through adoption, clear metrics, and satisfaction—not merely as technical output.You feel strongly about cost efficiency, sustainability, and actively reducing environmental footprint from your team's decisions.You’re comfortable coordinating incident responses, handling complex operational environments, dynamic backlogs, and on-call rotations.You are pragmatic and data-driven.You prioritize people and relationships, showing servant leadership qualities, empathy, and excellent coaching and communication skills.You’re fluent and comfortable working professionally in EnglishBonus points 🥸
